If you want to see history combined with shopping and good food, San Marino is the place to go. As an American, it is fascinating to be amidst structures from the Middle Ages. San Marino has never been conquered. History buffs will love it. Shopping is not like Beverly Hills or Palm Beach, but the leather goods are wonderful, there are lots of little shops etc to investigate, and there are plenty of places to grab a bite or a cup of cappuccino. Wish I could go back for their Christmas market. LOVED my time there.
We enjoyed San Marino, however beware of Terrazza restaurant. My husband got very sick from the food that he ate. It ruined the rest of our visit... We explored the first tower and were able to get our passports stamped (for 5 euro each) at the information office. We did nothing on Day 2...
We were extremely surprised upon entering San Marino. It was truly a gift to be there and enjoy all it had to offer. We went to meet family that we had never met and had an unbelievable wonderful experience both in visiting with them and exploring San Marino! We would love to come back and spend more time there.
We stayed inside the old city walls and the view from the top is breathtaking. Great place for a little R&R after travelling non-stop for more than 3 weeks. Enjoyed exploring the 3 Towers and the views San Marino afforded us.
It rained for two days or this must be a beautiful city. Most souvenirs sold in old town were made at bad quality and had nothing to do with San Marino. But I do like the friendly locals and its tranquility.
The city is located high on a narrow ridge. One can view the Adriatic on one side of the ridge, and glorious sunsets among the Apennine mountains on the other. San Marino relies heavily on tourism so there are many shops and restaurants to keep you busy. And of course exploring and walking among the 3 different Torres is a must. Save your money and skip the walking tour. Wikipedia is packed with most of what our guide told us. The city of Rimini is also close by. We visited in Winter but it is worth a half or full day excursion (definitely stay longer in Summer). You can drive or take a bus from San Marino. Rimini offers shopping, world class restaurants, and good historical sites. It is situated on the Adriatic should you crave a beach walk.

If you visit San Marino - stay here and dont look for further hotels. Very very clean; perfect location, also if you are arriving with the car. P6 and P7 are close to the hotel. 4€ per day for parking - get the ticket from the hotel. Breakfast was good too. On the first night we didnt have enough pillows so we 'built' some from the sheets - the cleaning lady noticed and left us 2 more pillows for the next day. Very nice!

Everything! Beautiful and romantic location with wonderful view. The owners are so lovely, communicative, forthcoming, friendly and helpful! Delicious food, homemade "pasta di mamma", fantastic lamb, etc...And even our 3 well behaving family dogs were welcome regardless of their size and that's not common in other places, because usually the guest is allowed to bring a dog of "mouse size". :) Definitely everything great. Fantastic place, fantastic owners.
