Loved this hotel, really good location, very nice boho chic decor, generous breakfast, super friendly and professional staff. Bonus: their shampoo and shower gel smell amazing! I would definitely stay here again. Another bonus, there is a spa right across from the hotel (Sense), really great masseuses there!

I was blown away by the overall experience I had at the Smile Lanna Hotel - from the check-in process and the friendliness of staff to the facilities it was simply amazing! The breakfast was outstanding with unlimited Barista coffee, freshly made Rotis as well as yummy sticky Mango rice were just a few highlights this hotel offers. The free foot bath and facials they were offering during the Xmas period was simply amazing! Absolutely loved the energy of the staff member greeting when guests arrived and left! I can't recommend this place highly enough!

FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Surrounded by Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystical capital of the North. With more than 300 temples, it's considered one of the most important cultural centers in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still has a relaxed and laid-back feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to lush green areas, mountains like Doi Suthep, and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 37 miles away with Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city center are a popular choice, with picturesque scenery featuring its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Road hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss "The Rose of the North" deals on Booking.com!

Chiang Mai is a city of temples and scenic beauty.

Chiang Mai is a city of temples and scenic beauty. We loved the stay there and would definitely recommend for a short getaway from the busy life. We managed to get a good taxi driver Han who took us around the places and we managed to find good vegetarian/ Vegan food choices in the restaurants. It is quite budget friendly and you may want to choose the places you would like to visit. Traffic can be heavy during the morning rush hour and evening time. Night markets are amazing with a lot of handicraft choices. Do not forget to get a massage to relieve your stress. Botanical garden is a must visit place!

Such a beautiful northern city within easy reach of the mountains, full of history, art and heritage. Fabulous places to eat and drink on every street. Brilliant markets with endless food options and great live music. Plenty of places to get a Thai massage, very reasonably priced. It's easy to fly to Chiang Mai, but why not take the train as we did! - a stunning scenic journey from Bangkok (10 hours but it went by quickly!) ... Chiang Mai is also a safe city with a very low crime rate. We felt safe walking the streets, whatever time of day or night. While you're there I especially recommend taking a cookery course - great fun and naturally delicious!

I like the mix of old and new, ancient temples and clean modern facilities. There's lots of great food all around the city, khao soi is a must. Try the pork leg at the night food market across from the north gate. I walked everywhere. It's a little hot, but easily walkable. Definitely see Wat Chedi Luang and attend the Monk chat. Learn about Buddhism and help the monks practice English. Walk around the walled city and visit some of the lesser-known temples.

Our 5 day stay at Pingviman Hotel was marvelous! Conveniently located in the heart of the old city, the Pingviman offered us a beautifully appointed room complete with luxury king bed with spa bathtub and private balcony. Each day we'd start with a sumptuous breakfast, step out the door to explore the wonders of Chiang Mai and return to relax and unwind in the beautiful pool (one of the few heated pools in the city) and finally, fall asleep in the wonderfully comfortable bed! Highly recommended!

The hotel is a little bit tucked away in a quiet residential area. Yet, it is quite close to the old city of Chiang Mai. The hotel staff is super friendly and flexible with any requests. What we particularly liked was that all day there is free cold water, coffee tea and some other consumables available in the hotel lounge. That meant that it was easy to relax in the lounge. The rooms are not very big, but contain all the things you need. The hotel is relatively new so everything works fine.

Quiet hotel in a good location with very friendly staff and a lovely breakfast included in the price. Hotel is located within the walls of the Old Town and is about 25 minutes walk to the old city gates. Good choice of bars, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance too....particularly worth noting that SP Chicken is located next door to the hotel - I recommend trying this for lunch.
