    I went with a car from Chiangmai.

    I went with a car from Chiangmai. Some of highlight places are not very far from each other but few need a car or transport. They are all beautiful and charming ruin architecture. Better to visit early in the morning to prevent hot sunlight and crowed during the day with plenty of tourists. They are still beautiful even look from far. The highlight places can visit in a day by buying a coupon from one of them if having time enough and cheaper. Other temples not include in coupon are also nice to visit such as Wat PUTTHAISAWAN. Floating markets are commercial and waste of time. There are not many nice places to eat. I went to 3 places and Khaolaor is my favorite (a bit far from downtown, nice clean place, good real Thai food, lime juice was excellent). Grill prawn is well known for the area but not anymore natural from river like the old time, tasteless and too costly for what it should be. I tried on my first day and very disappointing. One whole day for historical park and the next day needs car to visit Art of the Kingdom that is one of a kind and must visit if time allows then the rest ruin allow Ayutthaya.

    I have been several times to Thailand, but this was the first time to Ayutthaya. I was pleasantly surprised by the history, the waterways and the temples. Beautiful. I may come back some day and stay a bit longer.

    We came six years ago and loved it and said that we would like to visit again. I wouldn't come again after this time? The accommodation was not very good. The whole place seems to have gone down hill. It's more expensive. It's dirtier for sure. We witnessed tourists being chased by a big pack of big dogs and the people had to run over the road to escape? Quite disappointing. The host didn't help being so intrusive and breaking the handle clean off my suitcase. The owner walked away leaving us stunned! Didn't even offer any recompense for ruining a new siutcase? I still do not understand how he he managed to break it ? This guy was like a camper, crazier version of Alan Carr. Everything shuts at 9-10pm

    Ayutthaya was an amazing experience - after visiting...

    Ayutthaya was an amazing experience - after visiting Thailand hundreds of times over 40 years - I finally made it there. It was tranquil, beautiful, romantic and incredibly interesting. Easy to get to from Bangkok by train - well worth considering!

    Fantastic historical city, recommend taking morning river trip to various temples , accessible and cooler first thing. Also restaurants on the river bank for eating, use tuk tuk togetaround, they park right outside the hotel and know where to go quickly

    We spent an evening and a morning here.

    We spent an evening and a morning here. We arrived mid-pm direct from DMK Bangkok airport by train which took less than an hour and cost less than a pound. We went to a temple for sunset, visited a busy night market and had dinner by the river. Next am we drove around in a tuk tuk for 3 hours and visited nearly all the temples. Hot work but totally rewarding. I guess with more time we'd have done the museum as well although there's a lot of Ayutthaya to see in the National Museum in Bangkok.

    The staff was really professional and they are excellent and proficient in English a factor you might find difficult in Thailand in lots of stays. The lady was kind enough to also let me know about the weather situation in Sukothai which was not convenient to travel. The breakfast was great and since the hostel balcony opens up to the river view it is the best of everything Ayutthaya stay can deliver at a very affordable price.

    Don’t expect luxury but you get good value for money. The beds are comfortable. The airco is not loud. I had one of the best showers in Thailand in terms of temperature control. You can rent bikes and the owners are very friendly.
