The most spectacular ruins I've ever beheld. The extra bonus was that my hotel, the iuDia was right across for Phra Nakhon which has a beautiful lighting at night. I gained an historical perspective on the ancient Thai capital and tasted the exquisite aesthetics of the culture, even while swimming in the pool across the river in my hotel.
Ruins and temples fantastic, April/May very hot. Very few foreigners except for day trips, and town not very tourist oriented which was interesting. Distances greater than they appear, borrow a bike.
it is best to do some homework to read about history, culture to understand the place. best way to visit is to hire boat that goes around the old city. boat once a day 4-6pm and stops at two other attractions including Phra Nakhon Si
I'd recommend traveling here by private car then go around the city by bike. Lots of ancient temples. Some of them you have to pay for entrance fee. Some can be visited for free. Restaurants by the river can be expensive or reasonable, depends on your budget. Don't forget to try grilled prawn.
Foreign travellers who have even 1 or 2 days before boarding on the plane back can enjoy Ayutthaya because it is located so close to Bangkok, Like an urban Bangkok. The easiest and cheapest transportation to Ayutthaya is via TRAIN. Foreigners and locals pay the same fee. It costs only THB 15 per person. So, DO NOT BUY ONLINE. There are trains all day. Disembark at Ayutthaya Train Station. Ignore taxi drivers who will run to you like vulture. You should install "GRAB" and call Grab Car to pick you up and send you the center point where you can walk around ancient ruins yourself. To get offline map of this town, go for Google Trip. And useful reviews can be found on TripAdvisor.
The place is located about 1h30 from Bangkok if you take the train (trust me, take the train). It is located by the Chao Phraya river in a flat prairie area, which goes from hot to scalding hot throughout the year. The interesting parts of the city are the Historical Park, that occupies most of the western part of the island, and it is made up of a variety of temple ruins. Some of them require a ticket, but there is a chance to buy a week-long ticket to all of them. Outside of the island, the interesting places would be the Floating Market, which requires a 200B fee to get in and it's essentially a tourist trap. Close by there is the Wat Maheyong, one of the most interesting ruins, and a women's monastery that is visitable. Eating in Ayutthaya is cheaper than the center of Bangkok, but it's not great. Keep to the evening market near the train station. A place that I tried near the old city is the Lung Lek Boat Noodle. Getting around is easy if you have good legs to walk or to pedal, and bicycles can be rented in many places. Apart from seeing ruins, visiting the museum, and sweating profusely, there is not that much to see around the city. The overall city has the feel of the parts of Bangkok that are not skyscrapers, and I didn't find it very welcoming. PS: Close to Ayutthaya, there is a village called Bang Pa-In with a European-inspired palace and gardens. That is completely worth the visit.

Absolutely amazing, I was travelling around Thailand and Laos, and probably the best hostel that I'm been the women is so nice, she cooked already a pad Thai for us for free, nice fruits and stuff, room clean, big, air conditioner, mattress really comfortable. The location is not in the centre but is not a problem you can get bicycles in the same hostel, 50 thb but she rented us for free!! Breakfast was really good aswell. Definitely if I come back to ayutaha, I gonna go there for sure.

The best stay during my trip, honestly. It's like paradise island. Girl checked us in, Flora, find out we are staying only one night organised boat trip around biggest sights. She speaks English so good, unlike other accommodations we stayed so it was very easy and pleasant to communicate. She was so helpful, I wish rest of Thailand were like this. Room was clean and so romantic. One side is cosy lake with water lillies and other side cleanest blue swimming pool.

Great place to stay, room was clean and comfortable, the owner is so friendly and helpful. Gave us a map and free bicycle to explore the city, explained how to get to the amazing night market with some of the best street food you will try in Thailand. The wifi is great and the breakfast is probably the best I've had any hotel in Thailand...for the price it's a must

Extremely sweet and welcoming people. Always ask how you are, help you finding your way, invite you to sit down and have a chat, do your laundry very well (paid). They have a great kitchen. Their food was among the best we’ve had during our month in Thailand. The hostel itself breathes peacefulness and friendliness. For the ones who need it: WiFi is really good too.

I loved this place so much, I want to live there forever. It's quiet, it's peaceful, it's clean, it's convenient, it's beautiful, it's staffed with the friendliest family and it's absolutely top notch local hotel. This isn't nickel and dime "we got a pool", kind of place. This place is pure authentic and fantastic.

We were checked in 1.5 hours before the actual check-in time, which was nice. Room is big. Bikes for rent for 50 baht per day. Staff is nice. They can do much more with the hotel since the hotel is big and next to the river, but there's not much effort to make it better. They seem like they don't care.
