Really nice city, with good restaurants, a lot of shops and good people, it was also near to two turkish islands Bozcaada and Gökçeada, we got to visit Bozcaada and it was really lovely however the only possibility to get to the port is by car or bus. We loved the Naval museum, but you need around an hour-hour and a half to really visit everything.

Wonderful laid back city and surroundings; a great '' Citta Slow '' Seaside city with wonderful views, nearby convenient public beaches, historical sites. Wandering around in Ancient city of Troy and watching sunset over Assos hilltop on Athena Temple with Seaside view were great and not to miss. The dardanelles strait is beautiful on both sides and recommend to cross it with ferry boat for a soothing experience. Do not forget to try local seafood, calamari and sweets of peynir helvasi. Just watch out that on Monday some museums are closed.

Canakkale is MUCH cooler than what we expected. I recommend at least 3 nights there. We visited Gallipoli and Troy in one day but wished we had more time to spend just hanging out in Canakkale the town. Very young, cool population due to the university. Great places to go out at night also.

thins have changed since our trip seven years ago. we had a loving memory of BenzinCafe. this year still there but completely different from our memories. a good choice is to use the ferry of Canakkale. the other one from Gelibolu to Lapseki is to crowded and the time you stay in queue is enough to drive to Eceabat and cross to Canakkale. hope the bridge will be ready soon so much traffic will get by there.

What I read from previous comments was they were charging for parking fee, they might have changed their mind so eventually they haven't charged us for parking fee.
