They tried their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible! The rooftop has a pool, restaurant and a view of the whole of Stone Town. Simply breathtaking. Zanzibar is a great place to explore, with countless option of spending your time and very friendly people. I recommend spending time in several parts of the island as each place brings a different vibe and a different experience. Stone Town is great for exploring at least 1 full day, get lost on the streets, visit the local shops, go spice and fruit shopping in the Darajani market, try the local food in the many restaurants, watch the sunset from the beach, taste the Zanzibar pizza and feel the local vibe in the Forodhani market after sunset. Also go to Prison Island and Blue Safari from here, as they are close and you will not lose 2-3 hours on the way from your accommodation and back. The south-est beaches (Jambiani, Paje, Bweju) are not overcrowded with tourists and offer you the great experience of low tide, when you can walk 1-2 km on the sea floor and see all the marvels hidden there, watch local ladies tend to their seaweed plantations, windsurf or just watch the horizon coloured by dozens of wind kites, have barbeque straight on the beach with local fishermen cooking their fresh catch. From here it's close to visit the unique monkeys and mangroves from Jozani forest, swim in the Kuza cave, snorkel in the Blue Lagoon, check out Mtende beach, the beautiful sunset from Michamvi beach and stay for the party at Kae Funk.
Personally, I can't say that it is a destination where you can spend a lot of time. It depends on the tastes and it's too noisy for me and people always pull on you and it creates discomfort.
We stayed 4 nights 5 days and we have managed to go and see so many places and new hotels that have been opened recently like Madinat Al Bahr, this hotel had so magnificent view and the sunset was beautiful. We also went to see Hotel Verde where they have water parks for customers, friends and family to enjoy. Location was perfect and beautiful hotel. Went to see prison island where they were lots of big tortoises and peacocks. Then went to another island called Nakupenda Beach - this place was amazing - you can only see clear water and white clear sandbanks. Kendwa beach, Waterfront beach, the rock restaurant was amazing. We went to swim with Dolphins and I loved it. Zanzibar has a lot to offer. I would recommend this to everyone as I had a lovely time there!
- Beautiful beaches - Stunning nature - Driving is not safe, roads are bad, like really bad. Plus road police corrupt as hell, stopping and ripping off every other driver. - We stayed in the resort that was quite away from the road and surrounding villages, which was great but taking that road every time we were going for sightseeing was a pain in the back and all other internal organs! - I wouldn't recommend public transport especially for females unless you are on extremely low budget or super eager to try it local way. - There are different prices for tourists and for locals wherever you go. - If you are away from your hotel and have to find a place to eat, I'd recommend to follow your common sense - if the place looks OK, clean, has descent menu and there are at least 2-4 tourists eating there then go for it. You can at least ask those people how was their food and make your decision. - I havent seen any info on tipps so was leaving around 10% if service was good. - Tours are quite expensive so look up in the internet for the available options and try to negotiate the price. Dont go for the cheap options offered by the beach boys.
One of the best places to visit in the world! While we lived in Tanzania, our family visited the island regularly either by ourselves or with other visitors. We love strolling through Stonetown and seeing what the shops and artisans have to offer. The evening food market is an adventure and we could always find good affordable food each night. Spice tours are a must and can usually be booked through whichever hotel we would staying. Boat rides and snorkeling are also enjoyable and also available to book through most hotels or just by walking down to the beach in Stonetown. I do not recommend visiting during the holy month of Ramadan if you want to sample a lot of food in the day-time, most restaurants are closed during the day and people are not allowed to be seen eating by the public. Check the calendar and plan accordingly.
Intriguing and interesting city. However, the almost total absence of street signs is totally unacceptable given the complexity of the lane system. The amount of rubbish left in the alleyways and beach was very disappointing.
Nora and the staff were very nice and welcoming. The breakfast was great! We did a prison island tour to see the giant turtles, and I HIGHLY recommend it! The giant turtles are honestly worth the trip to Zanzibar alien :)
amazing hotel in Stone Town! We loved each small aspect of design and furniture very much! We had an amazing stay! Highly recommend this hotel to everyone! Take a superior suit if you can, and you won’t regret it!
