We went to ride the train and experience the steam engine. The lofts are the perfect place to watch the train yard and see all that goes into the whole train experience.

Room was comfortable and spacious. The location is peaceful and charming. Breakfast was very good, especially the coffee. The staff were amazing. The registration office and the breakfast area are delightful. You can walk down by the river in the hotel grounds. Loved it.

If you're looking for a secluded, rustic getaway, then this is a great place to stay. (And if you're not - why are you in Chama?) Our room was clean and had the conveniences we needed for our one night stay. Beds were comfortable and the area is very quiet - almost scarily so for two "city" girls. We enjoyed walking around the property and spotted a few deer roaming. There's also a decent restaurant right next door.

This all started with a conversation about mountains and I wanted someone to see what a Real mountain was like; therefore, you plan, book and make train reservations. The trip was a giant success and will be rescheduled for next year with additional people. Will try to finalize itinerary by mid-November for July 2024 and make reservations. 😊

The lake was almost obsolete. Nowhere to eat out on Sunday.

The lake was almost obsolete. Nowhere to eat out on Sunday. We took the train excursion on Sunday , beautiful! I highly recommend Cumbres Suites!! Owner exceeded expectations! Very kind and friendly, unlike Down Home Lodge, owner could care less if we stayed there.

The main tourist attraction of Chama is the historic, day long train ride from Chama to Antonito through beautiful mountains and river valleys where an extensive lunch buffet is included. The return from Antonito is via an airconditioned, comfortable bus ride. The town of Chama is quaint and has few dining options.

Highly recommend the Cumbres train trip would take it again.

Highly recommend the Cumbres train trip would take it again. Don't expect much from Town of Chama, dirty, only one or two goig eating places, limited facilities like restaurants, shops. If you're not excepting of small, unkempt towns that charge a lot for local hotels because of the train this place is not for you.

We really enjoyed the train especially the fall foliage. The food was so good at Fina's Diner and the owner was so nice. The Chama Trails Motel next door was a great place to stay. The staff was so friendly and the rooms were so clean and nice.

We enjoyed riding the train and drove up the evening before and stayed the evening after the train trip. The only negative is we road the train on Tuesday. The entire town is pretty much closed on Mondays. Finding somewhere to eat was not easy. Only two places open. Not sure if summertime restaurants are open more but this was not what we were expecting.

    Absolutely beautiful area!

Absolutely beautiful area! The train ride looks like it would be fun and show spectacular country. The river is beautiful with a nice path accessible for walking. Friendly people and nice little community. We ate at a local restaurant, Fosters, and had good food and very friendly staff. Coolest part was watching the bats emerge from behind their sign on the outside of the building at nightfall!!

A very well presented and well furnished room. A beautiful and very spacious bathroom, terrific shower. The bedroom had a huge bed, loads of pillows and a very warm duvet. Very good facilities in a great location right next th Chama railway station. Lots of character in the bedroom, a great place to stay and sitting outside on the balcony was really nice in the evening.
