It was a perfect location for viewing northern lights. The resort's snow cat vehicle was great getting us to a warmed viewing hut that had hot coffee, cider and ramen. My husband enjoyed the ice fishing option the resort offers. The staff throughout the resort was fantastic, friendly and helpful. The wait for dinner reservations could be long, up to 1.5 hours, which could be a problem but the food was very good. The smoked salmon chowder was excellent. The little store eating place offered great breakfast pastries and coffee and decent lunch options if one didn't want to wait for the actual restaurant. The rooms are thermally heated so even in zero degree weather, we opened our windows to cool the room down for sleeping. We stayed in one building for two nights where the room was small but fine.. We stayed one night in a family suite that was huge...great for a family of 4-6.

Touristy, but lots of fun things to do.

Touristy, but lots of fun things to do. Nice hiking (just ignore ugly, graveyard back area). We didn’t like the main hall accomodation. Still had up dirty Christmas decorations in late March and disinfectant smell was horribly overbearing. Tacky. At least the room was clean, but not eco-friendly. If you are going after an Aurora, they don’t give you a courtesy wake-up call. They are clearly understaffed which I found strange given how much it cost to stay here! Hot spring pool nice though as long as you use it after tourists go. It’s the only good reason to stay there. Didn’t try pool or jacuzzi but all looked good in this respect. If you don’t have experience winter driving, get a ride because road there in winter dangerous (that being said by very experience U.P. Michigan driver)! I’m glad we went there and stayed overnight, but one day is enough. I recommend you give it a shot at least. Maybe they will improve in areas I noted as “off” and really a turnoff for us. Go for a hike and see the ice palace. Chill with an apple martini! Yum!! Have a night and morning hot spring dip when super quiet.

This place is great way to experience Alaska.

This place is great way to experience Alaska. They have nice trails, the hot springs, and activities you can book that are the "quintessential" experiences like dog sledding and aurora viewing. The accommodations are a bit pricey for what you get but worth a day or two. If you go you are either going to take the shuttle up or have to rent a car. If you want to explore Fairbanks at all you will need the car since the shuttle into the city is not cheap. The drive from the airport is about 90 minutes, especially in the winter - you can probably get there in about 70 if it's nice and the sun is out.

Great place for a little getaway. if you're planning to come with a family get a bigger room. Bring lots of water and snacks. Bring slippers if going to the hot springs! Their restaurant is really good.
