FAQs about hotels in Chicago

Our Kind of Town

Standing proud beside Lake Michigan, Chicago is down-to-earth, friendly, and full of culture. It has outdoor art by famous artists including Chagall and Picasso, and there are some fascinating architectural works from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Home to blues and house music, Chicago has an eclectic music scene that reflects its spirit. The Windy City is also a pioneer in a variety of Americanized dishes from it's European immigrant roots like deep-dish pizza and the Chicago hot dog.

The world’s first skyscraper and Ferris wheel were erected in Chicago. The latter, on Navy Pier, is one of the Midwest’s most visited sights. Also famed is the ‘L’ transport system, whose raised trains circle The Loop, the main business district. Check out its skyline reflection in the shiny bean sculpture in huge Millennium Park.

Home of the Bulls and Bears, Chicago is a stronghold of sport and has teams playing baseball, basketball, American football and hockey, to name a few. If you get a chance, try to catch a game.

Chicago Midway and Chicago O’Hare Airport are both on the outskirts of this vast city, so make sure to leave enough time for travel from your Booking.com hotel, apartment or hostel. And all that jazz.

Macy's is directly adjacent to the hotel and is a wonder.

Macy's is directly adjacent to the hotel and is a wonder. There are still beautiful holiday windows and a huge inventory. Plan to walk to the Museum of Art, Chicago Cultural Societyi (free tour), and Millenium Park. There is a miniature golf course! There are many inepensive local restaurants. You will likely need an Uber to visit some higher end places.

Chicago had never been on my travel list.

Chicago had never been on my travel list. I was there because I was catching the California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco. I didn't have any real idea of what to expect but I very quickly fell in love with Chicago. I was only there for 3 days and I wish I could have stayed longer. There is so much to see. I definitely need a much warmer jacket for my next visit. I stayed at L7 Chicago (Lotte 7). As a solo traveller, I felt very safe walking around. All of my sightseeing was on foot. Next time I will definitely explore the L aka Chicago Loop further but there wasn't time on this trip. I did two walking tours but would like to have done a food walking tour as well. I loved the Chicago River Walk.

We were in town to attend a rugby match.

We were in town to attend a rugby match. While we were there we did a walking ghost tour and a river boat tour. Both were great. We had great meals and there was a lot going on. We took the Blue Line train into the city and connected to the Red line to get closer to our hotel. It was easy to figure out. We bought a 3-day unlimited pass that covered the trains and buses for $15 a piece. What a bargain. There were great places to eat and a lot of activities going on. We would definitely go back for another visit.

I love Chicago - it's that good blend of New meets Old.

I love Chicago - it's that good blend of New meets Old. Only a short 25 minutes drive from O'Hare International Airport puts you in amongst Gangster History, Good Food and on the whole Good People. From the Arts to Sport, Music concerts to Fine Dining - Chicago has it all for you. Transport around Chicago is readily available- the Red Double Decker Buses are a great way of seeing the great city with sop offs/pick ups from all the touristy places. Catch a ball game at Wrigley Park, the 2nd oldest baseball stadium or a casual stroll along The Navy Pier. Rock concerts go off in Tinley Park (we saw Alice Cooper n Judas Priest together in Oct 2025) or take a river cruise and take in the fabulous architecture that Chicago has to offer. Make sure you check out "The Bean" at Millenium Park as you head North towards the Magnificent Mile. (Hotels, shops, eateries and restaurants). Go see Sue the 99% complete T-Rex fossil at The Field Museum ... take a step on the edge ... on the Ledge on top of The Sears Building. Foodies - You must go the Carsons Ribs and Steakhouse - the best feed and service EVER!!!! And Volaré is a great Italian restaurant too - the best gnocci and vodka sauce - just like nonna makes! And there's this Pizzaplace called Beggars Pizzeria on S Clinton - great service and good Chicago Pizza Pie. If your into Blues style music, check out Blue Chicago on N Clarke - this club has the best vibe and showcases great local Talents like The Mark Wheeler Band and the sassy tones of Ms Shirley Johnson. I travel 13,000km to the USA, and each time I always find myself in Chicago - there is always something to see and do

Great city with plenty of attractions & things to do.

Great city with plenty of attractions & things to do. Really good transportation system that can get you to wherever you want to go in & around the city. The "Bean" in Millenium park is brilliant, as was the Skydeck at Willis Tower. The Bears won and the tour around the stadium made the trip complete!

In general I like this city - plenty of points to visit, like observation decks, museums, waterfront activities, even subway ride could be fun. Downtown is walkable and has bike lanes. Quite clean in downtown and northern parts. Nice views of the river and lake. A lot of socializing events happening in the city. The main problem is transportation system. If you just travel from O'Hare to downtown and back - you're fine, but for other areas it could be tricky. The buses are slow because the time loss on the stops and traffic lights, and the subway ("L") lines frequency except blue and red lines leaves much to be desired. Last time we traveled on Green Line from King Dr, and the train just didn't come, so we had to wait another 20 min for the next one, which is very uncomfortable. In a comparison with NYC, the transportation there is much better. Also, the areas on the south side have a lot of rubbish on the streets and you can meet some strange people there sometimes.

I had a great experience at the River Hotel in Chicago. The self check-in and auto-payment system made everything fast, modern, and super convenient. The receptionists were quick, friendly, and always ready to help if needed. One of the best parts is the location—it’s right on the Riverwalk, just across the street, and right next to the Trump Tower. It’s a perfect spot for exploring downtown Chicago. Overall, I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable stay in a great location.
