East Marion is a small town with big dividends, Beaches on both sides, the Long Island Sound on one and the Bay on the other, This area of Long Island has a lot of history including some of the oldest homes and family cemeteries. Great for local history buffs. There are many parks and preserves to explore. Look forward to returning when we can spend more time.
East Marion is Long Island at it's best. It's what the east end used to be, they have held onto the easy, simple way of life unlike the south fork and the Hamptons. I love the North Fork, plenty to do and simple, not flashy.
It is a very quaint town with a limited amount of things to do but centrally located on the North Fork to other sites and restaurants. Favorite thing we did was boat ride to Bug Lighthouse. Favorite restaurant was Noah.
We needed some groceries for the next morning since there was nothing to eat at the inn for breakfast, we drove very far to Orient Point to find a litthe place by the ferry to get sparkling water and driving back there was a fruit and vegetable station . I had to plead with them to let me have some blueberries that they had put away because they were closing. We enjoyed the beach
It is quiet and quaint. I loved the old general stores in E. Marion and Orient. The Hellenic snack bar has good breakfast with organic eggs and real maple syrup at no extra charge. Eating lunch and dinner out was a little on the pricier side for a casual atmosphere. Getting around is easy. Many beaches, nature hikes. There is a winery right near by on the LI Sound. Greenport is close as well with more things to do. Also a brewery in town.
The entire north fork is a wonderful place to stay! The people are so friendly and you can enjoy everything from a fine dining meal to a casual slice of pizza all in a relaxed environment. Highly recommend visit Porto Bello restaurant, owned by a husband wife duo (who have another restaurant in Orient)! Of course, you have to check out the wineries!!
