Featuring free WiFi, a barbecue and a sun terrace, Poplar Creek Guest house B&B offers accommodations in Grand Marais. Free private parking is available on site. The breakfasts were incredibly generous and delicious. The guesthouse was beautiful and lovingly maintained with interesting items and memorabilia adorning the walls. The rooms were clean and a good size with spacious en-suite bathrooms and a shared kitchen/lounge area that was perfect for evening relaxation. The hosts were wonderfully warm, kind and friendly with plenty of interesting stories and helpful suggestions. I couldn't recommend it any more highly if you're looking for somewhere a little quieter off the beaten trail.
Located in Grand Marais in the Minnesota region, East Bay Suites provides accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. Very comfortable and cozy suite, enjoyed the sound of the waves crashing all night. Walkable to restaurants and the quaint shops we love in Grand Marais. Hope to visit again when we could enjoy the balcony, too windy and snowy this visit!
Located 43 mi up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, Gunflint Lodge is a wilderness resort nestled into the heavy boreal forest on the south shore of Gunflint Lake between the Lake Superior National... This place was on our list of places to visit and my mom was visiting from Australia so we thought it was the perfect excuse. The food was a bit hot or miss but the staff and facilities made up for it. This place was just amazing.
On the shores of Lake Superior, this resort features activities like golf, fishing, and cross country skiing. Cascade River State Park is a 10-minute drive away, and free Wi-Fi is available. I stayed in one of the Poplar River studios, which was quite nice, The shore, of course, was wonderful. However, the highlight of the resort--somewhat unexpected--was the restaurant, which was truly excellent.
It was voted the Best Small Town in Minnesota. Quite the artists' colony, an interesting mix of shops, great restaurants, brewpubs with rooftop seating, wilderness outfitters, a haven for seagulls and dogs, and a beautiful harbor on the great Lake Superior.
Grand Marais is more than just the tourist town in the harbor. The best part about it is the Gunflint Trail. We really enjoyed the beautiful drive and scenic stops in the Superior National Forest. The Moose lookout stop was worth stopping for. There are many dining options too. Poplar Haus was our favorite. Their rum old fashioned and house made Pappardelle were worth the trip alone.
Grand Marais is my favorite place in the entire world. It's a bit pricey up there, even at Ben Franklin's, but the place is so pretty out there that it's worth it. Artist point is amazing. We always go to Blue Water Cafe come up with the service can be a bit harsh. There are other places to eat. I highly recommend checking out any of the historical sites up there and, of course, any hiking.
