FAQs about hotels in Honolulu

A True Water Sports Paradise

Standing proudly on the island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean, Honolulu is the Hawaiian capital, meaning "a sheltered bay." Spreading along the white sandy beaches and supported by the strong back of the volcanic mountains, it's a real island paradise.

Honolulu's most popular and famous district, Waikiki, features the stunning Waikiki Beach decorated with hundreds of surfboards, palms and lounge chairs. It’s also a center for the city’s nightlife and shopping, especially along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues.

As the most popular activities in Honolulu include surfing, snorkeling, canoeing and other water sports, it's no surprise the city has a number of sandy beaches. Try Hanauma Bay, a crescent-shaped beach with rolling, green hills behind it.

For fans of hiking and exploring, nature awaits at Diamond Head Mountain, a volcanic tuff cone where you can admire the panoramic view of the city. There is also the Bishop Museum with the world’s largest collection of Hawaiian and Pacific artifacts and the Waikiki Aquarium with over 490 species of marine fauna and flora.

From hotels near Honolulu International Airport to hotels near the beach, Booking.com has plenty of properties, from cheap to luxury, for your Honolulu trip.

This was my third trip to Oahu over the last several years, I love to visit there, it's a very special place where mountains meet the heavens and shoreline meets the ocean. If you're into shopping, dining, site seeing horseback riding, zip lines, and just lazy days on a beautiful beach this is the place to be. Please rent a car and travel the rest of the island the North shore is magnificent and OMG the local food leaves noting to be desired.

We loved Honolulu.

We loved Honolulu. We went on a full-day tour and our Guide was excellent. Loved Diamond Head. Tour booked with Aviator as we always do wherever we go in the world. We ate at a few different places.

An expensive place, best suited for a few days stopover rather than a 2 to 3 week holiday destination. A Pearl Harbour tour/visit provides an interesting historical experience, and any water based activities are great for a first time visitor. The Polynesian Culture Centre (PCC) is also educational and informative. Give the luau experience a miss, especially those provided by the hotels - overpriced. However f you would like to have the experience, perhaps do so as part of your visit to PCC. You can get around the Waikiki area without a car (walk, or take public transport (The Bus). Soon there will be a railway connection as a new option for some of your planned travel, Try Fire & Grill restaurant for a meal, give Earls a miss. Got a family - try Dennys - old but reliable, value for money.

We hated the bus system and should have rented a car...

We hated the bus system and should have rented a car although parking is expensive and limited. Waikiki beach is not a walkable beach with all the breakwaters to stop erosion, and the sand is very grainy and not packed at all. We're used to walking the beaches for miles but not here. Honolulu (the city) is full of multistory buildings, so GPS is useless. The streets are clearly marked so a map on your phone can get you where you want to go. The sun is hot but there are plenty of trees everywhere, so shade is easy to find. There's a lot to do and see here which is great but relying on the bus system is extremely frustrating. Restaurants are plentiful with just about everything you might want to eat. I would try some of the other islands, but the 13-hour flight was difficult, and I wouldn't do it again.

Honolulu is unique in the world.

Honolulu is unique in the world. A tropical paradise crossroads between America, Asia and Oceania. Although Honolulu is a commercial centre like any other moderate sized American city, its relaxed charm, mild tropical weather, beautiful sunsets and great beaches outweigh everything else.

Liked the pool and the cold air conditioning. Great spot with the beach directly across the road and the walled safe swimming area. Not as hectic and packed as the other end. Next to the zoo which was good for a quick morning visit. Starbucks around the corner but the best coffee was the little hut on the beach side about a 5 minute walk away. Tours leave from hotel so convenient. Staff helpful. Also a good gym that was very quiet. Very quiet at night to sleep and room was dark which was great.

Recommend this hotel highly. Staff friendly and our room was spectacular, great view , clean and having the kitchen was a bonus. It is not your 5 star hotel but the best value you will get in Hawaii. Clean and friendly and great location. Would be my first choice when I return.
