I loved that there is so much to explore.

I loved that there is so much to explore. So much to do and not a day passes where you need to get in a vehicle or worry about being hit by a vehicle on the road. Cars are not allowed. People ride bikes, walk, or travel by horse drawn carriages. We spent our whole trip outside: walking everywhere in the sunshine, sightseeing and it seems there’s a beautiful scene around every corner. Mackinac Island is not for people who don’t like crowds because in downtown, it gets crowded; however, if you are staying overnight you will see in the late evenings, it’s not as busy. Also, if you stay in a more affluent hotel farther out from downtown you can avoid the crowds. We wanted to be in the heart of the activity so we stayed in downtown.

Mackinac Island is amazing especially during the Lilac Festival. My friend and I decided on Mackinac because of it being an Island where you can get lost in time! We loved staying at The Murray Hotel, the only thing about our room was the shower. It didn’t have a slip proof mat in it and we’re both seniors with canes, so that was scary to get a shower. Otherwise, we definitely loved it! The breakfast in their restaurant was so good! They made us fresh omelets to order! The Island has no motor vehicles so that was a plus to be able to book a tour of the island in a horsedrawn carriage. We had both lost our husband a couple years ago and so I suggested the island because my husband and I had been there besides many trips over the past 30 years with other family members.

We went to Mackinac Island for a long weekend getaway. The scenery was beautiful! Everyone in town was very friendly and the whole atmosphere was easy going and joyous. Getting around is easy since you walk everywhere. There is a horse-drawn taxi service and places that rent Amigos for those who have limitations. Lots of little shops, candy/fudge, restaurants, butterfly house, etc.

Mackinac Island has something for everyone.

Mackinac Island has something for everyone. Shoppers, hikers, walkers, site seers. Early or late season is best as there are much less people. Food options are endless. Island Slice for pizza, The Pink Pony for lunch, cocktails, The Gate House for dinner. Douds Market for snacks. There are so many more with great food. It's a beautiful place no matter the weather. Truly Michigan's not so hidden gem.

I have traveled to Mackinac Island four times.

I have traveled to Mackinac Island four times. Each time we have discovered something new. My favorite time to visit is in early fall. We enjoy biking around the island and hiking in the middle of the island to see all of the hidden gems (Anne's Tablet etc.) We enjoyed the haunted ghost hike also. (It was interesting and not too scary) Our favorite breakfast place was the Chuck Wagon. Our favorite dinner places were Millie's and The Pink Pony (the view is wonderful). We also enjoyed finding the Secret Garden at the Grand Hotel.

Mackinaw Island is breathtaking the minute you step off the ferry it’s like stepping back in time, it’s all horse and carriage or bikes there is no cars just people walking or riding bikes or horse and carriage, they have two butterfly house that is a must to see all the butterflies flying around, there is the grand hotel and a fort that are a must see, lots of biking trails lots of shopping along Main Street. And need a taxi call one from Main Street and a horse and carriage arrives to take you where you want to go
