Located in Watkins Glen, 9 km from Watkins Glen International, Idlwilde Inn provides accommodation with free WiFi, air conditioning and access to a garden. The property has the coolest gazebo and water fountain fountain, a beautiful wrap-around porch, the bedroom was immaculately clean (I liked the sheets too). It was convenient for a break between Waterloo Canada and Washington DC. It was close to nature and to the unique Corning Glass Museum. We were able to walk to a good local restaurant along a quiet street passed a waterfall.
Sweet small town. Beautiful sites from waterfalls to Seneca Lake.Close drive to many wineries. We were told to check out Havanna Falls, a local park and it featured another set of beautiful falls. There is work being done as you head out of Montour Falls toward Watkins Glen the wait at the light can be up to 5-7 minutes. Hiking Watkins Glen is jaw dropping, we went on a hot day it felt good to get splashed, wear appropriate shoes. We ate at the Village Bar and Grill right at the base of Seneca Lake great food, views and service. Loved our trip
I loved this charming small town! The main street is beautiful and clean with charming small business and beautiful historic buildings. There is a bakery that bakes the most wonderful bread and pastries and the coffee is good. There is a cafe- though with limited hours, and Sal's the pub that has a great vibe, friendly staff, and actually good food. Some of the businesses are seasonal and re-open or extend hours beginning in April. When the spring and summer flowers bloom it must be even more beautiful. I loved it! Small town America at it's best. There are other basic services including, gas, laundry/ dry cleaners, convenience store. There is a nice grocery store and a Walmart nearby.
Eagle Cliff Falls and Shequaga Falls are worth the stop. We stayed at Cook Mansion B&B and it was a great deal for a gorgeous room. Downtown Montour Falls is small but historic and attractive. There are some nice places for food -- especially the bakery.
Beautiful town with an old-timely feel. You feel safe walking through even after dark. It is a great location to hit the wine trails or other local highlights. In 5 minutes you can be in downtown Watkins Glen and in about 40 to the top of Seneca Lake.
I selected the town because it was equidistant between where I vacationed and home. It was also near the corning glass museum. The town is quite small but is charming and has historic significance. Much better than the more commercial, Wakins Glen.
