FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, the Big Easy is the beating heart of the Deep South.

Dance down Bourbon Street, where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars mixed with more colorful nightlife and entertainment venues. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by St. Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD (downtown) skyscrapers and the Louisiana Superdome. Booking.com has several hotels nearby, including some on Canal Street, where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou.

One big tourist trap.

One big tourist trap. Overpriced meals, dinners and "happy hour" specials that are bait and switch. I dinner check that should have been $35 with tip, was more than doubled. Also, the restaurant attempted to calculate the tip on the entire check including TAX, Special Service Fee (which appears to be another form of forced tipping) The entire experience says let's rip off the tourist as much as we can get away with. Some of the restaurants that were my favorites before Katrina apparently never returned. The one redeeming feature are the trolly cars which seniors can use for 80 cents a day. Riding them, you see a great deal of the city and get on and off at your leisure. The WWII Museum is a must see.

New Orleans is a great place for adults.

New Orleans is a great place for adults. There are so many good places to eat for breakfast - Mother's restaurant, Willa Jean's. Getting around is easy, you can walk most places in the French Quarter. The streetcar is easy to use. I'd recommend taking it up to see the Garden District and Audubon park. The aquarium and insect house were very fun.

There is so much more to New Orleans than just Mardi Gras.

There is so much more to New Orleans than just Mardi Gras. As a matter of fact, we avoid Mardi Gras and for the most part Bourbon Street. The food, the culture, the history, the diversity, the architecture, the feel of New Orleans calls us back as soon as we depart. Not to mention the MUSIC!! What an epic destination.

The culture was fantastic, while most of the cabbies are all thieves and do not turn in the meter while more than doubling the actual fees for most rides. I would check with multiple sources to confirm before the ride to confirm the rip off by the cab driver. I'll never use a cab if any type in new Orleans again.

Fantastic location in the heart of the French Quarter. We were able to walk everywhere for the three days we were in New Orleans. The hôtelier gave us some great restaurant recommendations close by and the bar attached had great music and cocktails. Comfy beds and good bathroom.
