Enjoyed visiting friends. Wish more was open but understand that this is not high season and times are tough. Ate in Gualala. Don't remember name. Not much open in Pt. Arena. Had a take out shake that was great. Went to library that was great. We were there on a Wednesday. Getting around was exceedingly easy. Too bad so many abandoned store fronts. Coffee place was wonderful. Nice people. Good conversation. Should have brought some coffee beans home. Pt Arena is our secret getaway.
Pt Arena is our secret getaway. The harbor is alive with fishing & surfing but it’s all local & chill. The Discovery Art Studio Tour is amazing & there is excellent food & coffee options everywhere. Local festivals have great music & are small enough to not be overwhelmed. There are different beaches, lots of bluff top hiking along the ocean & a cool lighthouse. Rollerville is right down the road & has great food for any meal & very handy. Pier Place at the wharf is also good & great views & shops. I have lived in this area most of my life & had to move because of my husband's job 26 yrs ago. Point Arena is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with a stunning coastline. The coastal views on the way to the lighthouse should not be missed. However, the town center is rather blighted. The restaurants seem to be only open on the weekends. The historic center is worn down. . . not really any interesting shops or galleries. You may want to consider staying in Gualala or Anchor Bay instead. A trip north along the coast road to Fort Bragg, stopping often and including a stop at Point Arena lighthouse with climb to the top well worth it. It is a great, clean, friendly and quiet hotel with a great view from the balcony over the Pacific. Our room was very well appointed and the breakfast menu is great. The service staff are all helpful and nice. We did not eat dinner, we had already done that before check in. We have but on the terrace very good wine served including campfire.
