Salida is a wonderful spot along the Arkansas River and at the base of the Sawatch mountain range, which is home to 15 of the 58 fourteeners in Colorado. It is also near the Sangre De Cristo mountain range. We highly recommend Moonlight Pizza and Brewpub. We have gone to Moonlight Pizza several times over the years when visiting Salida. several times. Nice small town with lots of outdoor activities available, including river rafting and skiing at Monarch. Our 9-year-old grandson rode his bike everywhere, with his parents' permission, and we felt he was safe. There were parks with nice playgrounds for his 2 and 4 year old cousins. The location of the Great Western Lodge was great as we traveled into both Salida and the mountains. It was also right next door to the Aquatic Hot Springs Center.
