Salt Lake City is the surprisingly green Utah capital between the mighty Wasatch Mountain Range and the Great Salt Lake. Aside from skyscrapers housing industrial banks, the skyline is dominated by monuments of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints which is headquartered here.
A church member, Brigham Young, founded the city in what is now This Is The Place Heritage Park. A tower sculpture commemorates the settlers’ trek across America by handcart, an example of which is in the Pioneer Memorial Museum. Walled Temple Square has the main Mormon sights: the Temple is only visitable by members, but anyone can listen to the famous Tabernacle choir.
The State Capitol sits majestically on top of a hill with views of peaks offering winter skiing and summer hiking. The city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and one venue was the Olympic Cauldron Park within the University of Utah, also home of the Fine Art Museum and Natural History Museum.
The Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a more unusual Salt Lake City attraction and down the road is the Trolley Square Mall. More branded stores are in the Gateway District, while Sugar House is more trendy and eclectic.

Salt Lake City is amazing and absolutely beautiful—my favorite city in the US. Surrounded by stunning mountains, it offers plenty of activities year-round, including skiing, hiking, mountain biking, you name it. The scenic views are breathtaking, with hundreds of hikes to choose from. The city itself is very clean and well-maintained, adding to its charm. SLC is a beautiful town at the base of the mountains. It is great for winter sports, amazing skiing. I lived in Park City a season many years ago and loved that little town (about 30 minutes east of SLC). Nice shops and restaurants and choices of ski places on that side of the mountains as well. Summertime is great as well for hiking and plenty of outdoor activities. Temple square (Downtown)is very interesting , educational, and peaceful. Even if you aren’t interested in religion, it provides a wonderful educational opportunity to learn more about the culture, people and religion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (“Mormons “). I have been to Salt Lake City on numerous occasions, and always tell people to avoid it. The people are nasty and mean. No one knows how to drive and are completely oblivious that they are driving down the road. I tried walking around this last time and almost got struck by a vehicle several times. Unless you are into drinking near beer and looking at Mormon temples, there is absolutely nothing to do in this town. The first few times I unfortunately had to go to this town, I didn't even see the mountains surrounding the town because of the terrible air pollution. I would definitely say skip it and just head to St. George in the south where there are at least some things to see. Seriously, Salt Lake City is a dump!DanUnited States of America - Scored 1010

We ate at Cafe Molise, an Italian restaurant located within walking distance of the Little America.The salmon was “to-die-for” and the in-house, homemade gnocchi in light, creamy basil sauce with pine nuts was the bomb. Cool atmosphere! Our room was super comfortable with ample space in bathroom and sitting area. We loved having two separate vanities. It was a lovely, upscale place to stay right downtown. Hale Centre Theatre 🎭 in Sandy was excellent. We really enjoyed the professional rendition of “Fiddler on the Roof”. Impressive theatre. We spent most of the time at the Salt Palace for an Outdoor Expo, which was wonderful. The downtown area had a diversified selection of restaurants and most all were great! Downtown still had Christmas lights in mid February, which made it festive in one of the dullest months. Overall, the city was clean even though there is a large homeless population that occupied one section of the city. With that being said, there wasn’t really any issues that normally come with that. Salt Lake City has a lot of concerts, professional basketball and many trade expos in addition to a great choice of restaurants and night life.

SLC was just a layover - flew in/out to drive to Moab. We spent an afternoon walking around Temple Square (interesting) and the immediate neighborhood. Fair number of restaurants (and even a cocktail bar!) in walking distance. Also a couple museums we didn't have time to visit. Went to Great Salt Lake State Park before heading to airport. Stop in the Visitor's Center. Highly recommend coffee and breakfast sandwiches at Cupla Coffee on W 200 South and Pago on S 900 E for dinner. *Note: I truly don't understand the street naming system!!SusanUnited States of America
