The Menhaden Hotel features air-conditioned accommodations in Greenport. Located right in the heart of Greenport, this is an oasis of urban sophistication in an otherwise quaint North Fork town. Surprisingly upscale and very attentive team. Clean and efficient.
Featuring a 1950’s retro décor, the rooms at Greenporter Hotel rooms have modern amenities like a flat-screen cable TV and a refrigerator. I came for one night in the fall and I was never able to get a room in the summer - they are always booked. The facility is not new but very clean and the service is wonderful. Everybody here is so kind and polite. I was traveling solo and I felt very good in here. Excellent complimentary breakfast.Thank you very much!
It's a place to get away from the world. Barely any one there, so if you decide to go there then enjoy every second. The nature preserve is a great place to hike, I enjoyed a restaurant called Isola that had great food for a good price, and every nice thing there is like a 5 to 10 minute drive from the place you stay at.
I already commented on the room. Horrible towels were like sandpaper and I always had to ask for more. No plugs In the room. Terrible lighting can’t see anything. No night stand on the leftside of beds. Way small rooms. The hotel should have air conditioning. Period.
Very quiet place - the people are super friendly and there are still plenty of activities to enjoy! The sunsets are amazing, the Mashomack Preserve was beautiful and there are quite a few places around worth a day trip (e.g. Montauk). Shelter Island was definitely an awesome place to relax.
Lots of things to do, guided kayak tours, wineries nearby (check out Herbes Vineyards), and definitely the Mashomack Nature Preserve for a nice trail hike. I could definitely see what they mean when Shelter Island is referred to as "The Un-Hamptons". More secluded and quiet, yet still with the same great beaches and beautiful open skies. It feels like country living. Also check out Salt and Sunset Beach, both great dinner spots.
You need good weather which we had but on our last day it absolutely poured so our journey by foot back on the ferry to the jitney stop (the coach which goes back to New York) was very wet! You need to bring a waterproof just in case as the wind makes umbrellas useless. Food at the Pridwin is good but better is The Tavern Restaurant about a 15 minute walk away. Taking a push bike ride is such fun but you need to be reasonably fit as there are lots of hills and the bikes from the hotel have no brakes. You just pedal backwards which doesn't work as quickly as brakes so be careful coming up to road junctions
Short ferry ride over. $13 for car + 2 passengers. Cash only! Fun driving around the island. There are no stop lights! Just stop signs. The Pridwin has bikes you can borrow, too. Charming, laid-back atmosphere.
Fantastic time. Beth and Dominica were delightful!!!
