I have usually stayed closer to Grand Marais but I did like...
I have usually stayed closer to Grand Marais but I did like the Tofte location. I explored trails both south and north of Tofte and the stores in Lutsen are nearby. I also enjoyed the North Shore Winery and I was especially impressed by the Schroeder Baking Company as a food option. Other food options are available in Lutsen, Tofte and Schroeder that I may try on future trips. Overall I would consider Tofte or Lutsen as a top location for my next visit to the North Shore. The only downside is the distance from Grand Marais.

The resort is between Tofte and Lutsen.
The resort is between Tofte and Lutsen. The latter has more to offer vacationers with the ski resort and several dining options. However there are many resorts along the shore between the two towns. The gondola ride at Lutsen Mt to see the fall colors was exceptional. We had a good dinner at Blue Fin and a great, although pricey, dinner at Lutsen Resort. Both dining rooms had wonderful views of Lake Superior. A short day trip to Grand Marais was also fun. It's a trendy fishing village with shops, restaurants and other activities.

Located near the Temperance River and Temperance State Park...
Located near the Temperance River and Temperance State Park for great hiking, lake shore picnicking, beach activities, fly fishing, and waterfalls. Tofte has a post office, Holiday station, gift shops, groceries, and several eating establishments. Our favorite was the Blue Fin for great food and fine dining. We stayed at Cliff Dwellers just north of Tofte where every room has a balcony on the cliff edge to view and experience the beauty of Lake Superior. Tofte is only a few minutes from Lutsen and an easy half hour drive to Grand Marais.

We love the North Shore of Lake Superior, with it's Big...
We love the North Shore of Lake Superior, with it's Big Water and little mountains - so like other places in N. America, and so unique at the same time! Tofte has wonderful food, other great lodging in the area (though spendy at other facilities), an interesting history and beautiful setting.
Tofte is close to most of what's available to do and enjoy along the "middle" of the North Shore, and a good base for hiking and day-tripping.

Lexie was great! I loved our room! The furnishings were upscale and it was lovely to have a balcony overlooking the water! I can't believe this is technically a motel (why?) because apart from the fact that a door separates you from the parking lot, it felt like staying in a boutique hotel with a modern cabin vibe. So worth it for the money. Nice to have a fridge and coffee maker, too. I loved the water pressure and soaked in the tub! Our room was very clean. We'll be back!

It was a very good location to the state parks and lots of waterfalls in the area. It was a very cozy place. We enjoyed our stay. It was definitely nice having the garage to pull into so we could load & unload our belongings. We seen deer every night right out the back door.
