Although the island's capital, Kingstown centre is quite small and is composed mostly of offices with few shops or restaurants and it is quiet, almost dead, at night. The best beaches, bars and eating places are a car ride away the other side of town. Kingstown is a typical bustling Caribbean port. Not a lot to do other than the Botanical Gardens during early November. It probably has more going on once the tourist season really starts. The arrival of a Sandals resort will probably make Kingstown a very different place in years to come. More cruise ships are also due to dock too. Kingstown is a great place to visit, very pictureous. and you can hop on the fast ferry to any of the Grenadines Islands. Lots of freshly picked local fruits and vegetables are available. If you're going to be on the island for more than one week...
If you're going to be on the island for more than one week rent a car , the public transportation is horrible the taxis are expensive and the busses are packed. They will literally make you sit on their laps. Visit Bequia and plan your trip more around the Grenadines instead of mainland St Vincent. Visit villa beach , owia salt pond and hike the volcano. Take a walk through the local market and try the local cuisine. Be very careful , don't move around with to much cash especially at nights if you're out on the streets. The people are some of the best in the world very warm hearted and helpful. Visit VJ's resturant in Kingstown for local food On Fridays head to French Varanda from 5pm Visit chill spot for a mix of local and international cuisine Paradise Beach hotel for their burgers and roti. Sharon and Lennox are a delightful, friendly and welcoming couple. Lennox is also a very good cook. You will get a very authentic Caribbean experience if you stay here.
