Blue Lagoon is located in an idyllic part of the island, right by a beautiful lagoon. It was a bit more secluded, which was exactly what we were looking for. There are free bycicles available, which made our stay even more pleasant. The breakfast area is also beautiful, located in the garden of the property. Finally, our host was very kind, as was his labrador!

The staffs are super friendly and helpful. Esp when I was in an emergency. I got bad stomach ache during night, they helped me to go out to buy pills for me without charging any fee. Really awesome stay because they advised me lots of things to do, to eat, to go in Cat Ba. They recommended me which cruise should I go for one day trip. So impressive with the owner's handwriting map :)) Highly recommend!

We went with a tour company operating from Cat Ba on a day boat trip. This was a wonderful day and well worth doing. We were given a delicious lunch, a chance to swim and kayak. The views were staggeringly beautiful. We didn't actually stay in Cat Ba so I cannot comment of accommodation or restaurants there.

I loved walking around the Cat Ba island. There's more things to do than I thought so I wish I had planned more days in there. There's also many nice places to eat (healthy and vegan food possible, too). A boat tour around the Halong Ba and Lan Ha bay are a must on a sunny day. A visit to the local market (Cho Cat Ba) is another must. Get fresh fruit, e.g. mandarins, pomelo or dragon fruit. And what I did not like there? There's local music and a woman speaking Vietnamese that can be heard from the speakers in the park all around town since 7 am and then also in the afternoon. As my hotel was close to the main park (along the main road by the promenade), the music woke me up in the morning and then it was disturbing peace and quiet in the afternoon since 5pm for a few hours, again. Not sure if it was just during TET New Year celebrations or it's always like that but I went to Cat Ba to enjoy nature and silence but that loud public music was annoying as I could hear it even in my hotel room.

I can only recommend going on a cruise. Don't stay in town. We were here in January, and it felt like a ghost town. Hardly anyone was able to understand basic English, even in the 5-star hotel where we stayed (Hotel Perle d'Orient - the hotel looks great design wise, but the food and service were certainly not worth a 5-star rating at all and was a frustrating experience). Lan Ha Bay is beautiful however so go on a cruise rather than staying in Cat Ba town. The food is flavourless and plain. It is day and night with food offered in other towns in Vietnam. Also, don't believe travel blogs and tourism info. Monkey island was closed as it has been bought by a private group for resort development and you can't visit Cannon Fort as the army is occupying it and visits are not allowed. Disappointing.

I had a really magical time on Freedom Island. Jack, the hotel manager and the whole team were doing a crazy good job to make everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. Jack is a very kind person and always willing to help - far beyond from what one can expect. Time was just flying. And from what I have learnt on Freedom Island: flying is awesome;-)

It is tourism central, but has a good atmosphere except the 200db PA that blasted across town Wednesday and THursday night - but gone by Friday. The Ha Long Bay day cruise was fantastic with Cat Ba Green Trails, althought I heard the lunch served on Serenity was better

Cat Ba is still waking up and so are the facilities. The essentials are there and working, but not all the options previously available. A lot of places are closed or operating restricted options. Halong bay is running and the short run ferry. The cable car and catamaran are not.

This is a good hotel with great staff in Cat Ba. We did arrive by night bus in the morning and they directly did offer us a breakfast while they were preparing our room for early check-in. The staff is very customer focused and speaks good English. On the first day they did tell us about the highlights of the island and tips how to get to them. They did help us arrange the buss to Ninh Binh and we did rent scooters for a good price, so we could easily travel all over the island.

Amazing service 👍🏼 Viet is the man, very helpful and supportive!!! Help us with all bookings during our week on Cat Ba and all trips and transportation back to Hanoi. Help us even, when we did stay in other hotel. Bike rental brilliant, 15 minutes any side of island. Place has swimming pool and pool table also pretty nice nature and quiet little village around. good food and atmosphere. Recommending to stay there for a chill time there.

Been a trip around the island and there are a lot of 'standard' hotels in noisy and busy areas under construction. This is away from it all in hidden into a valley with a lake. The accommodations are adorable wooden cottages with lots of light and a view. We extended our stay multiple days.
