Located at Ipak Bay, North Tanna, Rockwater Resort features a private beach and landscaped gardens. Return airport transfers are included upon request from the property. The reef is phenomenal. Best we found in Vanuatu. The place , built into the coral cliffs is unique, and fun. Rooms are beautiful modern and interesting,
Offering a restaurant, Rocky Ridge Bungalows has accommodations in Tanna Island. There's a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. The resort is operated by a local family. They are very nice and helpful. They are not always there. But they kindly let us use the kitchen. The amazing blue hole 2 just right in front of the resort. We really enjoyed 5 nights over there.
With garden views, Tanna Iwaru Beach Bungalows is located in Tanna Island and has a restaurant, a shared kitchen, bar, garden, grill and terrace. Roslyn and Phillip are the most lovely people we have met on Tanna Island! We stayed 4 nights with them and the family and we loved every single moment! Everything Roslyn cooked was organic food picked fresh from her garden, so so yummy! The homemade coconut jam for breakfast was mouth watering and so delicious! Roslyn baked fresh bread for us and one day when it was a bit cold outside she heated up water and we could enjoy a hot shower :) From the first moment we got to Iwaru Beach Bungalows we felt so welcomed and like being part of their family! The last day Roslyn organised a beach volleyball game and it was so much fun! We can highly recommend staying with Roslyn and Phillip in such a beautiful and peaceful environment!
With garden views, Volcano Island Paradise Bungalows is located in Tanna Island and has a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk, bar, garden and playground. Morris, Susie and their adorable children are really fantastic family! Staying with them is an amazing experience! The bungalow is very beautiful and comfortable, surrounded by nature and the volcano view is just stunning! Don't expect luxury though, this is simple life and I was happy to have an electricity plug and a lightbulb at night. I couldn't imagine better stay on Tanna! Great way to disconnect for a few days. Thank you for everything, Morris!
Offering a restaurant, a bar and sea views, Alofa Beach Bungalows is located in Lénakel, 328 feet from the beach. All bungalows feature a balcony. Free on-site parking is provided. John Mac and his wife were wonderful hosts. They could not do enough for me.
Friendly Beach offers luxurious beachfront accommodations in a remote location. Each beachfront has a large terrace with hammock and lounge seat, providing views across the Pacific Ocean. A blissful location and eco resort, no wifi no telephone connection, only you and nature. The bungalows are comfortable and all made of wood. The food is freshly cooked and organic, tastes naturally. We loved it. The property organised all the trips but have to write to them in advance. The staff is welcoming and kind. We wish we could stay longer and not having to rush. Recommend at least three days to enjoy the bliss of the place. A tip about volcano trip, take only evening tour as only in the darkness you can enjoy the volcano otherwise it's just smoke
Offering a barbecue and a private beach area, Tanna Evergreen Resort & Tours is located on Tanna Island. Really friendly and helpful staff (specially Lina and Nadine), beautiful hotel and good restaurant. The room was really comfy, everything you need in there. The architecture of the hotel and the pool are really original ! And only 15 minutes walking from the airport!
Highly recommend Tanna to all visitors to Vanuatu. Amazing cultural experience getting to know local tribes and the way they live. Volcano tour is a MUST! Starring at mother Earth's boiling core and watching volcanic eruption happen right in front of your eyes is absolutely scary, but also an amazing experience! Do prepare for extremely bumpy roads and remote lifestyle.
Volcano looks the best in early morning and late afternoon. The lava is flying very high (Sept, 2016). Roads are hilly Bring enough cash It's not easy to get things (food, fuel, money, supplies etc), and the bungalows near volcano are very basic- but the locals are trying their best. So just forget about your expectation of the 5-star NYC hotel and follow the locals. Hike barefoot, like the locals!
You need to take cash and plenty of it as there are no atm facilities on the island. Tours are all expensive especially the banyan tree. Yasur volcanoes was an amazing spectacle, worth the effort. The Blue Hole has good snorkelling and has a reasonable entry fee. Only one or two restaurants in the local town but unfortunately they seem to finish cooking after lunch. Most tourist eat at their hotels. Local buses ply the main road but most tourist are having to use tours to go anywhere on the island, this can be quite expensive. Maybe 3 days is long enough on Tanna island.
Visiting the volcano was the highlight and an amazing experience. Driving thru the jungle and passing thru communities is great. The roads are very rough wouldn't lke to have had a bad back. Always well looked after every one so polite and friendly. Stayed at Friendly bungalows on eastern side. A long drive but saw a lot of villages and island life on the way. Bought banana bread at the market highly recommend.
Mt Yasur is an absolute highlight, as is visiting a remote village like Yakel. People are extremely friendly, scenery is stunning. The roads are in a (very) bad condition, but for me it just added to the experience.
The volcano at Mt Yasur was definitely the highlight of our Vanuatu trip. Being at such close proximity to bubbling lava and the rim of the volcano was a big thrill. The intensity of the roar of the volcano and gusts of volcanic ash covering us contributed to an incredible experience. At one point a huge piece of molten lava came hurtling out of the volcano towards us, going several metres over our heads to land below us down the side of the volcano. The road to the volcano could not have been in worse condition. Giant pot holes meant that it took 2 hours to get 35 kms however it is a very rewarding experience, one we will never forget. We also went to the kustom village Yakel, featured in the film 'Tanna". I would also recommend doing either this village or there is one other similar one. A representative of the tribe showed us around, we went swimming with them under the waterfall, drank kava with them and watched them dance for us. Lots of photo opportunities. We would've liked to see the Blue Cave but each day we were there the sea was too rough for the boat to go out. We saw a giant Banyan tree which cost about AU$90 for the 1 hour trip from the main town which certainly wasn't worth a fraction of that price. We both felt 5 days on Tanna Island was slightly long and 3-4 would've been just right. Even just going for the 2-day, 1-night package from Port Vila would be worth it as the volcano is such a great experience.

There are so many fantastic activities available on Tanna. As well as the standard “must do” trip to the crater of Mt Yasur, which was amazing, the opportunity to go ”ash boarding” down the side of this active volcano was a real highlight of our trip to Vanuatu. In addition there is incredible coral reef snorkelling at the drop off right next to the resort, and the nearby blue hole. The local staff at Tanna Evergreen Resort and Tours were lovely, always friendly and full of smiles.

I loved the location! Right near Yasur, with stunning views of the volcano right from my bed. Also the feeling of getting a real Vanuatu experience. Not a resort hotel experience, but really getting in touch with the real Tanna! Mike was helpful in organising my tours and activities, and i really enjoyed the food he provided

Compared to the other hotels in Tanna, this one has a very good standard, nice beach infront and is very calm for its price! There are not that many food choices, but you can easily hop on a bus to eat out in another hotel. For what you pay you get a lot and its very beautiful.

We fell in love with Morris, the host, and his family. We loved our experience on Tanna Island, and Morris' family was a big reason why. The views of the volcano and the rainforest surrounding it are stunning. We also loved living in a mountain village.

There is a blue hole one nearby. It is a good place to snorkel by yourself. But you must take a dive shoes with you. Or maybe you will hurt by the reef. It takes about 10 minuets to the airport. You will have a great experience to stay at this hotel.
