The Amra is the former "Energetik," it's right across the street from the Gagra farmer's market and is in a well known location. We stayed in one of the "VIP" cottages which are very comfortable for a family of four but probably only for a family as there are no doors in between the bedrooms (!) All meals are served buffet-style so get vaccinated before you go. On the plus side this meant that our whole family could eat for 15-20 minutes at each meal which is a huge time savings. There is a quite good restaurant up on the 16th floor which has good food at great prices and in fact is so high up you'll probably be able to catch cell reception on your Russian phone.

Very beautiful nature, the town is located right at the foot of the mountains. The sea is clean, people are friendly. If you take a ride to the mountains, there are picturesque walks, the trails are visible and in good condition. The frustrating part is food - it's hard to find a cafe/restaurant with decent quality of food; everything is either not fresh or absolutely tasteless. They don't even seem to sell local fruits/vegetables. Most wine is fake, it is hard to find a trusted source for anything.
