We saw lots of whales from the coastal path without necessarily having to go far from Gearing’s Point. The weather affects sightings-our final morning was windier and we saw nothing in an hour. Consider boat trips from the New Harbour in Hermanus to save the drive to and from Gansbaai. We saw hundreds of dolphins which swam right next to the boat for ages, a protracted and close encounter with a humpback whale and several southern rights with Hermanus Whale Watchers - we even glimpsed a Bryde’s whale and some seals.
