During a road trip along the South African coastline with my husband, we turned into the main road of Kenton on Sea and I said, "I could live here". The town is well managed and maintained. The people are friendly and chatty. Nature that surrounds the area is absolutely breath taking. The sea and beaches are perfect. There are 2 rivers that flow into the sea on either side of the town with many wildlife reserves in the area including the Addo Elephant. There are a number of eateries in the area.
It had a quaint feel and we felt comfortable there. Everything we needed was close by and there was a fairly good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for such a small place. We drove around a little on the way out and found a really nice spot by the estuary which we'd like to visit again sometime soon.
The coastline and birdlife is a nature lovers dream. You can really immerse yourself in nature. It is close to many top notch game reserves. You get the best of South Africa here - seaside and bush... The little town is quaint, with beautiful little shops, and a world renowned artist studio (Rose Dreary), lovely eateries and food markets. The best pizza in the world, is served at "Pizzarellas" - where you can sit with your toes in white sand and Loeries in the trees above you. A truly magical place.
Enjoyable river boat ride with Kingfisher Charters - the owner is very knowledgeable about the town and very friendly and laid back. Had a delicious seafood lunch at the Sandbar Floating Restaurant after our boat ride. Everyone at the beach observed social distancing. The town is quite small so very easy to get around from the beach to the supermarket to the hotels and guests houses. Boknes and Cannon Rocks are close by for those who love fishing.
Kenton is a small town with few shops and restaurants, but if you want a simple lifestyle, it offers everything you need: a quiet, laid-back get-away from the madness of city life. We visited pubs with terraces overlooking the sea in the late afternoons, and watched dolphins racing with the waves while we sucked down sundowners. What more does one need? Much of the Eastern Cape coastal thicket is still in situ, and it's a lovely thing. The birds and orchids are abundant. Make sure to pack your binoculars to watch the whales surface.
The Oyster Shack home in Kenton was absolutely beautiful. Self catering accommodation with a hotel feel. Everything you need in a holiday home as well as toddler friendly. A true relaxing ambiance. Extra small touches were added such as tea, coffee, filter coffee, milk, olive oil and spices - even blitz and wood to get you started. The bed was comfortable and had a new feeling. Staff were great and accommodating. All round a great home away from home.
Excellent stay at Indigo. Booked for 1night during a short visit to Kenton On Sea and wish we could have stayed longer. We decided to book B&B and the breakfast options was great. The house is beautifully decorated, spacious and location great - short walk to the beach. Indigo is an ideal option for families or couples travelling. Attention to detail was key.
The hotel was a surprise find in the area, the architecture and interior design were amazing and had a luxury feel. The room was well appointed for a small family of up to 4. Awesome views down to the beach and river mouth. The whole concept is amazing with spa / accommodation / restaurant.
Shaun was an excellent host and his approach was welcoming, friendly, informative and professional. He is a gem and definitely an outstanding hotelier. The room had a lovely view of the ocean and was clean and comfortable.
Wonderful clean and spacious. Marion explained how remotes worked very well. Would recommend to anyone going down to Kenton On Sea. Lock up garage as well. Loved the stay.
The accommodation was amazing, the staff were so friendly welcoming and helpful, and our guide Richard was outstanding! He was incredibly knowledgeable, diligent, and attentive. Richards game drives and bush walks were priceless lifetime memories!
