The Diaz Ocean View is a little gem. We visited in June 2023 when it had just opened in Winter. We were greeted for breakfast by Victoria who was so excited to see us and so welcoming. Despite very few guests at the time, they laid on an exceptional breakfast (including pancakes, waffles etc) but also additional "brunch" type platters of cold meats, crackers, cheeses, all presented like a top-class restaurant - I don't usually have "savoury" for breakfast but tried their pork terrine and freshly made sauces - the Pesto was superb! We also met the restaurant manager (forget his name) and again he took the time to personally come and talk to us, ask where we were from and when we asked about the S.A curry’s, he went to the kitchen and came back with the spices to show us what goes into Durban Curry! The level of care and attention to detail by the staff was amazing. I had to get a quick picture with Victoria and her wonderful staff too. The hotel was clean, and we (4 adults) stayed in a large family room (Double and sofa bed) which was comfortable and for the price, very reasonable as we just wanted a stopover driving the garden route. The location is amazing, and our room with balcony overlooked the sea. Free parking was available in the hotel too. Overall, a great location, superb hotel with amazing staff that couldn't do enough to make you feel comfortable. Highly recommended and if we could, we would have stayed another night. Go stay at the Diaz Ocean View Hotel - you won't regret it.

We loved Mosselbay but our trip was too short to really comment. The weather was fantastic while we were there in the middle of winter. The zip line was good but far too expensive for South Africans. Lovely beaches. We did self catering at the apartment but the restaurants are plentiful and good as we have been there before.
Mossel Bay has been around for years and has many old buildings and a big enough town to spend a few days of pondering through various kinds of shops. It has waves for surfers closer to the point and the waves along the beach are small so you can enjoy the water. Long stretched out beach to walk along. Generally good weather but best between October and April. Mossel Bay has a beachfront restaurant area nice in summer and a hotel with casino for fun where a food buffet is absolutely outstanding
We only stayed overnight as one of us had to see a specialist at the Bay View Life Hospital so did not do any sightseeing; whoever we met was charming & polite . The location of our accommodation was perfect & the host was very charming & helpful.
It was a pity that the Dias Museum was partially closed when I decided to visit. The museum is under renovation which is always a good sign. The replica caravela was a marvel to behold. It was such fun to write a few post cards which I had not done in decades and get to post them at the Post Office Tree outside. Lunch at the St Blaise Lighthouse with its incredible view was most enjoyable. A most pleasant afternoon was spent with Christopher at the Point of Human Origins/Pinnacle Point Golf Estate. His archaelogical knowledge of the area was phenomenal. Visting one of the caves was a highlight. The vista is breathtaking. The Lulu Cafe in Danabaai is highly recommended. Stylish decor and delicious breakfast options were a treat on a daily basis. Beach 1 and 2 in Danabaai were super clean.
The accommodation in Mossel Bay is more affordable than the rest of the Garden Route and central enough to take day trips to either Knysna, George and Oudtshoorn. It's a well run Municipality, which means the roads are smooth and its clean. The weather is great in autumn and the views are good where ever you stay.
Mossel Bay is a town that still retains many of the quaint qualities of the original seaside village, but with the modern amenities you would want when travelling. It can be difficult to move around with a vehicle in-season, but most facilities are within walking distance anyway. Plenty of raw nature to explore, and good restaurants to sample. Always a pleasure to visit.
