Located 14 km from Oudtshoorn, De Opstal Country Lodge offers accommodation in a restored farm building, originally built in 1860. We were the only guests staying at the lodge and the team took such good care of welcoming us and ensuring we were well looked after. We felt like VIPs have all the amenities to ourselves. We made use of the restaurant and swimming pool and even enjoyed a very tranquil, star gazing fire pit experience. The rooms were tastefully decorated with an interleaving lounge area that provided a great spillover for our 2 young boys. Michael was very attentive to all our needs, and beyond, and a favourite amongst our boys. The home cooked food was delicious and some welcomed healthy eating, after lots of padkos.

They serve a lovely breakfast, partly a-la-cart in addition to the basics such as fruits, toast and more, which you can take from the buffet yourself. The cars in the parking area sometimes got their windows washed in the morning. The rooms are provided with cold fresh water for the night. There is a small splash pool which is great to cooldown when coming back from your daytrip. The hotel is located in Oudtshoorn itself and is at a short walking distance from multiple nice restaurants. All-in-all it was a perfect stay for us.

We visited Oudtshoorn during KKNK and it was therefore fairly busy, but we didn't struggle to much with parking or to find a good restaurant for lunch. We enjoyed our visit to De Rustica Olive farm. On the Sunday we traveled over the Swartbergpass to Prince Albert, Klaarstroom and De Rust which was very enjoyable. On a previous occasion we visited the Cango Caves, which is still very impressive. I also went on a tour to photograph the meerkats at De Zeekoegat guest farm, which I will recommend for any wildlife photographer
Thank you Oudtshoorn you impressed us. The friendliness of its community. Outstanding natural beautiful landscape. Cango caves must not be missed and has its own “gifted & talented female vocalist (sorry I’ve forgot your name) who sang Amazing Grace so beautifully during the guided tour. Own transport needed.
The Home is truly a Farm Stay. Loved the family history and antiques that surrounded us. It is quiet and peaceful and has very thing you need close by. The hone us exceptionally large making you feel very comfortable and the host is always willing to assist and accommodate to your needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Oudsthoorn has so much history, we have visited many times many interesting places to visit, visited the Cango ranch, and many of the restaurants recommended by the hosts at Riverside lodge. Very easy to find your way around
Wish we had come more prepared to explore, or had known where to go for outdoor dining/ lunch. Thankfully the mall is central with a choice of shops and eateries. Everything is within walking distance...
The beautiful Karoo was stunning. It never disappoints. Chandelier farm is a must- you get to feed the giraffes and ride and ostrich. Wilgewandel is a hit with the kids. There's so much to do, from camel rides to go-carting. Good restaurants all around.
Oudtshoorn
Perfect place for a stop over if travelling through. Set on the main road from Oudtshoorn towards the Cango caves. Providing a bush feel as you can hear the lions roar from the wildlife park next door and views of the bush from the veranda. The owners were super friendly and really made us feel welcome, allowing us a late check in after a long day of travelling from Cape Town. Fairly simple layout but providing everything we needed for a comfortable overnight stay. Thank you.
Oudtshoorn
Riverside Guest Lodge was exceptional. Elsa and Albert were perfect gracious hosts providing us with the history of the Oudtshoorn and information on surrounding attractions and restaurants. They were always ready to give a helping hand. The rooms are large with a cozy fireplace. The view of the Grobbelaars River in the mornings spotting birds was a unique feature in a town in the Karoo. The breakfast was delicious.
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years when we come for the annual dog shows. At first they did not accept dogs then they did and made our stays fabulous even putting all the dog people in the conference room for dinner and let us bring the dogs in it was a wonderful evening.
Oudtshoorn
We had a wonderful stay at Mayfair Cottages. The cottage was impeccably clean, comfortable and well equipped, with a lovely view over the fields with Springbok and hills. The location is excellent - close to Oudtshoorn but still feels peaceful and rural. We can highly recommend a stay here!
Oudtshoorn
The accomodation was excellent. It is in the better part of Oudtshoorn. We could take long walks through the area. We loved the fact that it had AC, huge beds and secure facilities. We were very impressed with 5 on Smith Street. Memories self catering.
Oudtshoorn
The lodge is pretty well located to reach all meaningful spots around and very good restaurants are available nearby in 3 min driving. The team offered a great service in assisting on each request in a very friendly and amicable way.
Oudtshoorn
The location was awful far away from main safe gated hotel, the direction given were poor took us 25 mins to find it. The room was infested with bugs the sheets were dirty and there were dead bugs in the net around the bed.
Oudtshoorn
The accommodation was spacious. There was a big parking space, right outside our superior room. Everything was new and in good working order. The braai area was great...everything we needed for a short self catering stay.

What was not to like! The set-up, the facilities, the service, the proximity to civilisation whilst being in such a tranquil spot, etc. Loved the meerkat safari! And the braai packets were yummy!

Everything was perfect. The tents are amazing and the pool overlooking the hippos was very special. Also, how close it is to George - yet feels so remote.
Very friendly staff. Went out if their way to accommodate us.
