Riebeek Kasteel is a beautiful historic town with a small interesting town centre and some lovely old houses. There are wine and olive farms nearby where you can do tasting - many have great restaurants. The town itself has a few excellent restaurants and a wonderful old hotel where you can have a gin and tonic on the veranda. It is easy to walk to the small town centre from just about anywhere in the town. A wonderful place to base yourself if you want to explore the winelands of this area and to spend a few days lazing next to the pool in one of the lovely guest houses. We stayed in the Old Barn Guest House and Cottage.
The town is in the wine valley and has a cute town square with the Royal Hotel as well a church close by. You can visit a few wine farms in the area as well as few good restaurants and a great bakery. People are friendly and ideal town to spend a weekend readying or walking the in and around the village. It's one of those small villages that has sole. I would compare it to McGregor or Greyson in Western Cape. There are no heavy industry so little or no pollution
Interesting small town in a lovely area Great expansive views across the valley Several small restaurants and locally owned shops, galleries Local vineyards good to visit and range of options on tasting, prices - all very welcoming However... the majority close at 2:00pm on Saturday and are closed on Sunday. So hampers a weekend stay in terms of choice!
Riebeek-Kasteel is a charming town and well worth a visit. We found the local traders friendly and willing to share knowledge on the town and places to visit. Lots of interesting places to explore and we particularly enjoyed sampling and buying locally made products. Only an hour's drive from Cape Town for a refreshing, country experience. Kloovenburg and Het Vlok are well worth a visit. A G& T on the elegant veranda at Riebeek-Kasteel Hotel at sunset and can recommend a meal at Mama Cucina and cheesecake at Bay Leaf & Thyme. Thank you Michelle at le Maison.
Quaint little town with lots of little shops. The Royal Hotel has a Fabulous Gin bar... you have to stop over there! Beans about Coffee is great for breakfast and a cuppa. Stay overnight at Die Kasteel, it has the most magnificent views over the whole town. Looking for great pizza, try Red Tin Roof. Overall, it a must for any trip to the Cape!!
First visit to Riebeek Kasteel and we all agreed we'd love to come back, although next time we'd make it a weekend. Some of the shops and restaurants close Monday and Tuesday or only open weekends. We spent some time at the wineries and olive farms, lots of tasting opportunities in the area. The village doesn't have much in the way of food shopping but there's a Spar liquor store plus a great independent local wine outlet, a tiny Pick n Pay and a little fresh produce market. La Parilla bar and restaurant was buzzing during loadshedding.
