Depends on what you like to do... there are several hotels connected to The Galleria (shopping/restaurants) such as the Westin Oaks. Hotels are cheaper on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights here and increased for business travelers during the weekdays. You are about a 15-20 min UBER/cab ride from the Museum district too and a 5 minute drive from the Houston Arboretum/Memorial Park. There are hotels around the museum district but none next to the main museums. The museum district is next to Hermann Park which has our zoo and a natural history museum (butterfly collection.) Our Fine Arts Museum and modern art museums are in this area too. Tex Mex food is everywhere so do try it! Houston has been voted best restaurants in the USA last year (or 2018?) by a major travel magazine (Conde Nast maybe?) You will enjoy eating here. :)

If you have a car, the options are pretty much unlimited. We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast near Tomball, TX-northwest side of outer city limits. We drove into city and spent a day at the Air and Space Museum. We also drove to College Station and visited the George W Bush Presidential Library, shortly after Barbara Bush's passing. It was a short drive-less than 2 hours and we spent 1/2 day there. we love B&B's (usually historical places with fabulous hospitality and breakfast is included!) and you can get some good deals right on https://booking.com
