Hi,

I’m traveling from Sweden to Hanoi this month. My flight goes from Sweden to Thailand, then to Hanoi.
Do you guys know if I have to stay in quarantine for 14 days just because I’m landing in Thailand for a few hours?

Thank you

It’s all changed !! My son is in Hanoi and said literally overnight everyone is panicking , they have been refused entry to 3 restaurants because they are European , people are panic buying and friends who have come to visit have received an email saying flights been cancelled ( they are already there !) this was the 9th or March I’ll update when I get more info ; we’re supposed to be flying there in 3 days

Sweden

Ok. Maybe it’s because they have 30 cases of Coronavirus right now in Vietnam. Do you know which flight it was? My flight with Aeroflot what also cancelled just two days ago. Didn’t tell me the reason. That’s why we’re looking to fly with Thai Airways instead. But maybe it’s just not worth to travel to Vietnam right now.

I've just had 2 hotels cancel on me because they are not receiving European travellers.

Sweden

All European in general? I haven’t booked any hotels yet, only reservations.
Thanks for the answer.
We should probably ask the hotels before we book.

Vietnam suspends visa free travel for 8 European countries over coronavirus concerns

The temporary suspension applied to citizens of Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain, the government said in a news release on its website.

were supposed to be flying on the 12th so have just applied for a visa online for $25. no idea if it will arrive in time or allow us entry but its an online application which can take up to 3 days. you need to take a photo of your passport and another selfie photo and upload. My son who is in sapa and due to arrive in hanoi on the 12th said it has changed dramtically and the hostels they are staying in have emailed to say they are closing . my hotel has confirmed they are still open i hanoi so its a bit all over the place. he will update me in the morning so ill let you know, but hes in sapa now not hanoi so it could be different there ?

I’m British and my girlfriend is Irish. We entered Vietnam via Ho Chi Minh Airport from Sydney on 28th February. Both on the 30 day evisa. So far we have been to Phu Quoc flying with Vietjet, and travelled to Saigon, Mui Ne and Dalat. We have had no problem with any hotel, flights, busses or tours so far. We travel up to Hoi An today on a night bus and have a hotel booked for when we arrive there.
Hope this gives peace of mind to some people

We flew through Haiphong airport today to HCM, and had no issues. There were no additional security measures (no one took our temperature or did health checks, and there were no questionnaires). Landing in HCM as well there were no checks at the airport. The flight was full, and seemed normal besides the face masks, though we were the only American/Europeans on the flight. Hope this puts some people at ease, and hope you can get out of the hotel soon Jules!

Hello, does anyone know about travel restrictions to some of the islands, specifically the Con Dao Islands (Con Son Island is where we will be landing on 12th March from Ho Chi Minh city)? I've seen a Vietnamese website mention that there was a proposal by the local authorities sent to the province administrators to temporarily stop all domestic and foreign visitors from arriving to the island. @Adele Nguyen, thank you for all your helpful information! As a local, do you have any information on the status of the proposal or how likely it is to be passed? Also, I found you on couchsurfing and would love to meet up in Hanoi if all goes well! :)

Vietnam
-

Hi Karolina, from 15:00 today Mar. 10 until further notice, Con Dao stops receiving foreigners to the island for tourism. They are afraid if the nCov breaks out on the island, their limited healthcare resources are not able to cope with and it would cause risk for tourists. This suspension applies also to local tourists.
For couchsurfing events, I will keep updated there if I cancel or maintain the event in March. Thank you!

Since suspending the waiver visa yesterday for UK nationals. I applied for an e-visa. I am UK citizen living in Cyprus. I travel in 2 weeks. They have now stopped issuing e-visa and to apply for a physical visa it takes 15 days. Any advise on an emergency / fast track visa would be greatly appreciated.

"From 0:00 am (UK time) the 12 of March, Vietnam temporarily stops the 15-day visa exemption for people holding British normal passports. Nationals of the UK must have valid visa in order to enter Vietnam.

Beause of covid -19 outbreak in some countries in Europe, the Embassy of Vietnam in London for the time being will not accept requests for visa processing until further notice. Only applicants with visa approval letter from the Immigration Department of Vietnam can apply for visa issuance from the Embassy.

For those who wish to travel to Vietnam, they need to contact with their Vietnamese sponsors/tour-operators for arrangement of their visas with the Immigration Department of Vietnam. Once they get the visa approval letter from the Immigration Department, they can contact Vietnam Embassy for the issuance of their visas."

Hi everyone, we have been following this post for the past few days. We are a Polish-American couple but we reside in Germany so we were worried about potential quarantine measures or even refusal of entry. We applied for our e-visas months ago so this was not an issue for us. An update for those who are in a similar situation, we arrived to Ho Chi Minh airport, we were given the medical declaration form right after exiting the plane. We waited in a line for about 25 minutes and then gave to form to an officer. He only asked us if we've been to Italy, South Korea, China or Iran in the last 14 days. We said no and he gave a stamped paper which we took to the passport control. In summary, everything was ok. We didn't see anyone being detained and the overall experience was pretty smooth. Ho Chi Min City also seems to be quite lively, a lot of masks but restaurants, shops etc. are open. Hope that helps! One more time, shout out to Adele for being so supportive, proactive and helpful by answering all our questions. Thank you!

We just got this so presumably we can claim off our travel insurance if the flights are cancelled -
“It has been posted earlier this afternoon in several major local newspapers that our President would speak on TV informing of a new decree. The speech just aired referred to several major decisions among which two of high impact:

- cancellation of flights to / from USA, UK and Europe + Schengen countries for 30 days, apparently ban will start on Monday.
- quarantine of all passengers who have arrived in the past 14 days and those arriving from USA, Europe + Schengen countries, UK, China, South Korea, Iran and Japan. Start date is expected to be Friday 13 March.”

Let's all stay safe and postpone travelling until later this year or when this is over. Also we need to be mindful about the damages this can do to the countries we travel to. Hay James we where flying with Turkish airlines. I got a refund as they changed my return flight and I had not confirmed it. I didn’t ask for a refund I was originally calling them to check the possibility to change my flights to a later date and they offered a refund. I can’t see how insurance can’t help now. It makes a complete farce of the system that we are told to get insurance for the “what if” and then when the what if happens they sit on their hands.

Hi, this is the latest advice from the UK Government website...

Vietnam has announced that from noon Vietnam time (0500 UK) on 15 March 2020 foreign nationals will be refused entry to Vietnam if in the previous 14 days they have been to the UK, or any Schengen country, even in transit. This restriction will be in place for 30 days.

Whilst it may be possible for foreign nationals to enter Vietnam with a valid visa and who have not been to the UK or any of the Schengen countries in the previous 14 days we strongly advise you to check in advance with a Vietnamese embassy.

The British embassy understand that British nationals already in Vietnam by that time will not need to leave the country.

For flights up until noon Vietnam time on 15 March 2020 there is increased disruption and restrictions on British nationals visiting Vietnam.

I spoke to my insurance yesterday (Aviva) and unless the FCO put travel restrictions on the country it's not covered. So all the restrictions being made by Vietnam law are not covered. We are due to go on the 31st March.

There are restrictions you cannot get in now

Hi Nicola. We are hoping that the airline cancels the flight in which case the insurance should cover it? I think any insurance company will do their best to avoid having to pay out!

Valid from noon on March 15 for 30 days after:

1) Travellers from the 26 Schengen countries and the UK, or those who have visited or transited through these countries in the past 14 days, will not be issued visas or allowed entry into Vietnam. This also applies to those who currently hold visas or visa letters.

2) Vietnam has suspended visas on arrival for all foreign nationals. This applies to all new applicants, except those travelling for diplomatic or official purposes. Those who currently hold visas to enter Vietnam will need to undergo medical checks and may be quarantined before being allowed to enter the country.

I returned home from Vietnam last night. Left early and would advise anyone not to go.
We went on a tour in sapa and it ended with us being quarantine for 30hrs as someone on our tour has been on same flight as someone with virus.
They are very scared and place is quiet. Waste of time and money atm

Uk has advised against travel to Vietnam from the 14th. This should be enough to trigger travel insurances, airlines to refund/reschedule.
