Travelling from Malta to Sicily

What Ferries are available on a Thursday, 10/24? So far in October all I see is Sunday Ferries?
Or are there boats that you can rent to get there rather than fly? What is the preferred transportation?

Depending where you want to go and how long. There are Airmalta and Ryanair flights daily, if not mistaken. From Pozzallo you can hire a car, best through Virtu Ferries, or check about coach going to Catania. Feel free to ask more info, currently on a 9 day holiday in Sicily

Virtu Ferries has a new catemeran now and the journey takes roughly 2 hours from Malta to Sicily. Whilst I would not recommend to rent a car in Malta I would say rent a car in Pozzallo or take the bus up to Catania. For a one day trip to Sicily Virtu Ferries have special offers, but if you like driving rent a car and drive up to Siracusa or may be as far as Taormina. You can rent a car right in the habour of Pozzallo. In Italy they drive on the right hand side and the way to Siracusa is right from Pozzallo all along the coast. The highway is called autostrada and most of it is tall free.
