You will love Colombia. It has everything a traveler needs. Bogota is a great lively city with lots to see. Cartagena and San Andres are beautiful places to visit. I lived and worked in Colombia for 3 year and did not want to leave. Try it!

I really think you need to be more specific. For example Lima, Peru is horrible in July but lovely in Costa Rica. San José is half rain, half sun while surf's up in Dominical. Also... Latin America is 18 countries and over a hundred regions. And... Health concerns. México City is very bad for anyone with asthma but Oaxaca is fine. You can see a lot in one month. A country like México deserves a month. A taste of Peru or Costa Rica can be done in two weeks.

You could combine Costa Rica and Nicaragua and get a real experience.

You should visit Peru. We have everything: In the coast the capital city Lima (fantastic food), amazing Nazca lines to be seen flying over the desert in Ica. Then archeological sites in the highlands (Chavin de Huantar, in Ancash and Macchu Picchu and others in Cuzco), and then the jungle and Amazon river in Iquitos. Enjoy!

It would also help if you mentioned what your interests are. Are they cultural, historic, nature, or something else?

My suggestions for overall enjoyment would be Mexico or Colombia. Both have a great range of options and activities.

Mexico

Mexico , Colombia o Argentina. In Mexico I would spend a weeks the south(Oaxaca, Huatulco, Puerto Escondido), a week in Rivera Maya, a week in the center ( Mexico City, Queretaro, San Miguel) and a week in the north at Sierra Madre, Cañon del cobre ( chihuahua)

I just spent 3 weeks in Argentina and took a short ferry ride to Uruguay for another week. I had a blast! Argentina is a great value because of the favorable exchange rate with the dollar. Weather in February was warm ans dunny with very little rain. Buenos Aires is a vibrant city with lots to do: great food, museums, street art, architecture, and hipsters. There is a modern subway and lots of buses as well as Uber. It’s a combination of historic and contemporary.
San Carlos de Bariloche in the lake country of borthern Patagonia has fantastic scenery and outdoor activites.

I went horseback riding on a ranch with broad, flat landscape surrounded by mountains, like being in an old Western movie. Afterward the rancher prepared an asado, with grilled beef, chotizo and blood sausage, along with salads, wine and mate. I hiked and rode horses into the mountains, with large glacial lakes in view below. I took a guided boat trip to an island and a peninsula to hike in native forests where unique species were nourished by the clear water if the lake snd the minerals from periodic volcanic eruptions. The Patagonian, Swiss, and German restaurants were great, and there are many local craft beers and wineries. People were very kind and helpful to me. Every day was an adventure!
Montevideo, Uruguay was slower paced than Buenos Aires, and people were more laid-back. The city has a long, lovely waterfront where I rode a bicycle, and a charming old city by the harbor that has changed little since colonial times, except now there are modern restaurants and shops in the old buildings. Small museums were free and offered a glimpse of gaucho life, the home of a rich colonial era art collector, and contemporary avant garde photography. Uruguay is clean and safe, with a well educated and friendly population. I watched older folks dance and young couples canoodle in the parks and plazas.
I’m 68 and travel solo. Every day of travel is a joy if you have the right attitude and are reasonably fit.

With a month you can go to Peru, Colombia (Cali, Salento or the region where the coffee grows, Medellín, Bogotá and the caribbean in the north of Colombia like Cartagena, Santa Marta or San Andrés Island) and then move to México.

As a travel specialist, I will recommend visiting Peru as your first country in Latinoamerica. In Peru, you will meet many people as taxi drives, tour guides, hotels who speak very good English.

It is also quite easy to travel to Peru because of the great infrastructure like buses, trains and local flights. Also, you will meet many other travellers along your travels. Peru has everything: great mountains, great archaeological sites and the best food ever!

It would be more helpful if we knew what your interests are. Art museums? Nature? History? Outdoor adventure? Latin America has all of that and much more but some countries have more of it than others. Mexico and Nicaragua are a couple of my favorites but your mileage may vary.
