Alternatively, explore the beautiful scenery with a long country walk. Make a visit to the enchanting Altamira caves, under a kilometre from the Solana. Beatriz was a wonderful hostess. She was very welcoming and very helpful. We can certainly recommend a stay at Posada La Solana.

The nearest airport is Santander, 59.4 km from the accommodation, and the property offers a free airport shuttle service. It would have been difficult to have been treated better and almost impossible to find a more relaxing location with breathtaking views. The hosts were perfect; available on the phone at any time and quick to respond to any messages. The accommodation was ideal for our needs and indeed we have taken away a good few ideas for a property we are renovating (thank you Meli). We stayed for four nights and wish it had been longer; the area is one of truly astounding natural beauty and is the perfect location to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet. The village itself is very pretty and the locals equally welcoming and happy to chat. One can walk from the property to local restaurants which provide wholesome economical food and a warm welcome. We have lived in a very beautiful part of the Mediterranean Coast of Spain for over 20 years in one of the most scenic valleys imaginable, or at least we thought so until we came to sample the delights of this gorgeous village in the Cantabrian mountains with fields of freely roaming livestock all around and the backdrop of awe inspiring mountains with free flowing rivers and streams with pretty cascading falls all within pretty easy walking distance, albeit up and down hill. Parking was super simple in a private spot right beside the property, but not such that your car blocks the view. We visited the coast whilst we were there which is around 40 minutes by car through sensibly wide mountain roads (windy, but easy to drive) and also took a trip to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim (just over an hour), but it was lovely to pop to the local "supermarket" (corner shop) and buy some bits to enjoy a picnic.

Situated in Quintana de Soba, 60 km from Santander, Camino de la Torre - Ruralsoba boasts a barbecue and views of the mountain. Collados del Asón Natural Park is located 2.5 km away from the property.

All units have a TV. There is a seating and/or dining area in some units. There is also a kitchen, equipped with a toaster, fridge and stovetop. There is a private bathroom with a bath or shower in every unit. Towels are offered. Nice location with own parking and entrance. Very friendly and helpful owner.

There is a private bathroom with a shower. It's a comfortable apartment - not huge, but cosy. Ojedo is small, but there's a nice place just down the hill - for a drink and/or something to eat. We had a nice time staying here for 4 days. The owner us right up the street - in case you need anything.

They were also super helpful at advising us what to do in the area and helped us in every way they could. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed.

Posada El Hidalgo is located in Valdecilla, just outside the Cabárceno Nature Reserve. This country house has a charming porch overlooking the garden and countryside.

Offering a picturesque setting, this charming country house features an outdoor pool and free Wi-Fi. It is located in Secadura, 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches on the Cantabrian coast.

Hiking, canoeing, horse riding or cycling can be practised nearby. This was our first stop off on a road trip through Spain and Portugal and what a great choice it proved to be. We received the warmest of welcomes, the room was lovely; clean and comfortable and the setting was simply beautiful. After a long drive, we enjoyed a pre-dinner walk along the little lanes that run up into the hills. Our charming host prepared a very nice homely dinner which we ate on the terrace. Both the room, and the meal, which included wine, were outstanding value for money. Given the price, it would be hard not to give this a ten out of ten.

Great location if you are going to go to the wildlife park!
