Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama. Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience. From you enter the reception you are met with a beautiful traditional Japanese interier, it is very well done. Everyone there were very polite and respectful, from staff to other guests. We three women arrived around 16, were able to select a cute yukata each we wore as much as possible for our one night stay, and were shown our room which were as big as a small apartment. We choose to go directly to the onsen which had just opened for the afternoon and had the place for ourselves. Very well stocked with brushes, hairties, lotions, everything free to use! the rooms were nice and comfortable, there was a beautiful tea set for us to use so we had a tea party in our yukatas, before dinner. We had paid for the dinner which was serving after serving of small dishes and a particularly tasty hida beef with miso dish. The beds and shower were great, nothing to complain about there, we had the traditional breakfast the day after with a self serve bar of drinks such as tea, coffee, juice and milk. Oh and we also went down to the onsen before breakfast and were once again alone to relax and take our time. It was probably the most expensive stay we have included on our trip but it was also by far the best experience we have had, and can recommend anyone to try it even just for a night like us, if not more ☺️

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. The hosts treated us with great care and kept on checking on us to ensure nothing was missing - they brought us tea during the day and prepared a delicious breakfast. This was one of those gems hard to find due to the authenticity of the place. thank you so much for for keeping our heart warm, we will remember Takayama in a special way!!

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Amazing place! Food was great, staff were so nice 🙏🙏🙏 Best Value for money in Japan !

Situated at the heart of historic Takayama Old Town and just steps away from Takayama Jinya Morning Market, the traditional Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan offers personalised hospitality, hot spring baths... You can message hotel to pick you up at bus or train station. I did it last minute but service was prompt and smooth. Suite room is spacious with impressive view. There are three onsen to try. I tried onsen on 1st floor safter dinner ,onsen at 7 th floor of hotel infront of this hotel in early morning…..sunrise light was so beautiful. Third onsen is 2 storey old building in front , I miss it. Breakfast and dinner was great.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. Facilities - A beautiful old building, the outside is charming and has a picturesque entrance. The layout is convenient and it is clean and well maintained. Rooms - the room we stayed in had a tatami floors but western style beds raised off the floor (only by a few centimetres). It had a small tv which only had local tv on it. The room is beautiful, with paper window shutters and sliding paper doors. There was a toilet inside and a basin in the entrance. Bath - the highlight. The bath is clean, and is perfect to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Staff - didn’t have much interaction, but the receptionists were extremely polite, as is standard for hotels in Japan, and the older gentlemen who showed us to the rooms was extremely helpful and polite. He brought our suitcases up in the service lift so we didn’t have to lug them up the stairs. Location - perfect, barely a 5 minute walk from the station, and another 5 minutes to the historic streets. Plenty of restaurants and shopping around.

The river view, tatami room, futon bed and the warmth welcome by staffs;Ono and the other chauffeur are very welcoming. I like how everything was arranged well by the hotel and I just relax here
