While a pleasant town, it clearly needs some better care and infrastructures. It is disheartening to see some public and many private properties crumbling. Communication is a challenge, to say the least. You are lucky if you find one, anyone, who can speak some English. The best part of the town is its people; warm and inviting, despite the lack of communication. One never feels threatened or in lack of security, no matter where one might be across town.

San Juan is a small city but is fine for a short visit and is easy to drive around. The cathedral bell tower (Campanile) gives a nice view over the city centre, but you must buy the ticket at the Teatro Municipal on the main square first.
