Barbon was suitable for an over night stay in a small picaresque village to the north of Kirby Lonsdale situated on the edge of the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District. The village is also host to The Barbon Inn originally built as a coaching inn in the 17th century and the civil parish is in the diocese of Westmorland and Furness, the church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. Barbon being also north of Casterton where the Beck is a tributary to the river Lune which runs close to the village with great Fell walks along Barbondale and the winter Fell running Race. The Church mouse is also located in central Barbon the original Post Office, a village store, café and delicatessen. The emporium has indoor and al fresco dining being fully licenced proffers snacks, light lunches, tapas and lunchtime specials in the café and purveys a comprehensive range of cheeses, meats, chilled products, groceries, newspapers, freshly baked bread, homemade cakes/biscuits and local milk in the shop. What more could the traveller/walker need or ask for?

The location was the deciding factor in my booking this hotel as I needed to be in proximity to the local church - it was less than 5 minutes walk away. It would also be an excellent base for those wishing to explore the local area hiking onto the fells. Glorious scenery. We ate in the Pub restaurant and whilst it was a fairly basic menu the food was well cooked and there was plenty of it. We also ate at a local cafe called the Church Mouse the home made soup there was excellent and warranted a few visits throughout our stay.

The room was well appointed with a huge bed. The food was excellent and the kitchen staff worked on to feed us. The bar had the usual beers plus two hand pulled real ales. The staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble.

A lovely, cosy cottage in a fantastic location for The Forest of Bowland, Lakes and Western Dales. There is a great pub in the village and the garden overllooks fields and fells. The cottage was lovely and warm and the log burner was a real treat. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was powerful - always a huge plus. The dogs loved the fully enclosed garden and were very content by the fire in the evenings. We would love to go back again.

The cottage had everything we wanted - a real fire, king size bed, conservatory, garden, old and cosy character. It's located in Barbon, an unspoilt village with a wonderful cafe - The Church Mouse, that sells fab cakes, meals and basic groceries and wine, and a good pub - The Barbon Inn, nice beer and pub food. Some lovely walks around too, everything we wanted.
