We loved the small independent shops in the high street and the various arcades off the streets.
There was a great selection of places the eat or tea/coffee shops.
The town had an outdoor market on at least Fridays and the Corn Hall (indoor market hall and tearoom) also had an antique market at the time of our visit.
The Parish Church (also has a model of the abbey) and Abbey grounds (abbey was demolished on order by Henry VIII but the footprint and artist impression remain at the site) were also lovely but unfortunately we didn't get round to checking out Cirencester Park or the Roman Amphitheatre (just the earth mounds left).
We we staying within 10 minutes walk but the town had plenty of reasonably priced car parks which became free after 6 pm.
While the Parks offer activities for Children and if you love your Roman History the museum is a must, the town is nore aimed at couples and more mature adults.

Evening meal in the Fleece Hotel was excellent.
Evening meal in the Fleece Hotel was excellent. We travelled on the no 51 bus. Cirencester Parish Church is worth a visit. Enjoyed browsing books at Waterstones and the cafe there. The market is good too.

Strangely this year the cathedral was closed for sightseers - this may have been bad timing - repairs- there certainly wasn't any apparent services or anything similar when we visited town on xmas eve- or boxing day - a definite lack of 'busy' but it might be locals fed up with visitors - who knows but very quiet and uninspiring to be honest - luckily we were visiting family and apart from a lovely antique shop near the Cathedral - nothing to inspire anyone to come into town. Cafe's etc way over priced and wouldn't put London to shame.

Cirencester is somewhere that we visit 2-3 times a year as we love the town. The buildings are beautiful honeyed stone and there are many individual shops as well as a great indoor and outdoor market which make it such a fab place for shopping. Loads of choice for eateries and some nice hotels too.

Had no previous knowledge of Cirencester, but was a lovely Town to visit. We visited the Museum, very reasonable admission fee, due to our visit being in November, we were able to walk around at our own pace, & view at ease. There were lots of coffee shops, & unique shops, no lge Stores in the Town centre, they may of been on the outskirts, but we had no need to use. The shops offered a wide range of items, & the were several indoor market shops. The surrounding villages were very picturesque, so there will be plenty to see.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Thames Head Wharf. The hosts, Chris and Ann, were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and made us feel very much at home. The room was clean, comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. The location is very quiet and peaceful, about 3 miles outside Cirencester, with beautiful views across the countryside. We enjoyed walking across the fields to the source of the River Thames and to a couple of nice pubs about a mile or so away. There is free parking on site. We would highly recommend Thames Head Wharf!
We arrived with our friends two twin rooms we stayed room 2 has only one flight of stairs but so comfortable with lovely beds spotlessly clean bathroom and central heating on all day if you require or adjust yourselves never been so warm and cosy in a hotel or B&B also very quiet
Brilliant breakfasts large quantities you need healthy appetite cooked wonderfully plenty tea coffee toast
Natalie and Bob, the owners very helpful lovely to chat to made us very welcome
Great location central to Cirencester and public transport
A very friendly welcome from our hosts Anne and David who couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. Our room had the benefit of it's own entrance away from the Pub. Whilst quite small it was very nicely furnished, the bed was comfortable and the facilities all that you would expect. We had an excellent freshly cooked breakfast on the second morning. The Inn is situated just a short walk from the town centre which is a perfect place to sample the Cotswold experience. All in all a lovely place to stay. Thank You.
THE SPA!!! Management were good and willing to assist in small requests stuff as from the bar. Breakfast was a buffet but depending on how much you could eat would determine if it was value for money however they did provide got food alongside a continental breakfast. Shower pressure was good too. Location was ideal for a drive throughout Cotswolds and a walk into Cirencester. Mattress was firm. The lounge area was a great place to wind down before returning to the room too.
We liked everything about the hotel: the decor, cleanliness, location (near town centre and nature reserve), very friendly and professional staff, value for money, extra touches (such as water and milk in the fridge supplied every day, coffee machine making lovely coffee, etc.) and amazing breakfast!
We had a dinner in the hotel's restaurant and it was a great experience too.
What we really like was the attention to detail - well done Ingleside House staff!
The staff were very welcoming and helpful, what a great team.
After we checked in we enjoyed dinner in the pub and had had an amazing Beef Wellington. If this is your favourite, you will not be disappointed.
The following day it was a brief walk to the spa hotel for a delightful breakfast in the dining area over looking the gardens. The menu offered a wide selection of breakfast choices, we was spoilt for choice.
A lovely place to stay.
The room was lovely. It was clean, the beds were very comfortable, bathroom had hot water with powerful showers and the garden was beautiful. it was a beautiful hotel that was close to the town center. Rosemary was the best hostess and the breakfast was exceptional. The staff are excellent and you get an authentic English experience. I highly recommend this place.
We had our dog with us and we were restricted from eating a number of the hotels venues. We did have breakfast but had to sit in the lounge nearest the entrance. The breakfast room was self service and seemed understaffed there were tea and coffee machines and buffet style food counters , no staff spoke as they were all rushed off there feet
we very much enjoyed our long weekend at Stratton House Hotel. The staff were very efficient and friendly.
We had the King room which was spacious, warm and well laid out. The en-suite was very nice indeed, with a large walk in shower and roll top bath. The Super King size bed was very comfortable indeed.
Lovely place to stay, great contemporary feel, and very convenient location, right in the town centre. Price included breakfast. Lovely food and staff. Room was adequate, bed comfortable, pillows not so comfortable. All in all happy with the stay
Service from staff was excellent. No ask was too much, be it at reception, housekeeping or the restaurant. Location also very good and only 5 mins out of Cirencester. Reception area also very well kept, as was the bar.
Location was easy to find only 7mins into Cirencester loverly village Bridgett and Neil made us feel very welcome
Breakfast was very tasty and the breakfast room was very homely. Will stay again in the future.
