We had a wonderful stay at The Houghton Hotel during our trip to South Africa. The hotel is incredibly modern and stylish, with very spacious rooms. The bed was exceptionally comfortable—exactly what we needed after a long flight. One of the highlights was the breakfast, very tasty and lots of options. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay, and we were especially grateful that they accommodated a very early check-in so we could rest right away. Although we didn’t get a chance to use the hotel’s amenities, we did take a look around and everything—from the pool area to the wellness facilities—looked top-notch and beautifully maintained. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing, upscale base in Johannesburg.

The staff that work at the hotel were terrific! They were so helpful with arranging transport, giving me advice as a newcomer to Johannesburg, and keeping the room clean, well-maintained and comfortable. Proud Mary restaurant downstairs also had excellent food and a great staff, too.

The service and the people attending to us as guests makes all the difference in a property. Without a well trained and dedicated, happy to serve staff, the most beautiful property can be a bad place to stay. So, our experience was completely complemented by the very lovely staff. The propert is beautiful and the restaurant wonderful. There is only one consideration that I as a woman and an architectural designer could suggest is that the bathroom lighting needs to be improved. Not good for make up application and pampering!

    Wonderful hotel with a great restaurant in a fun, safe area of Johannesburg. It is right on the border of a hopping, upscale mall with great food and fun shops. Extremely safe area. Staff was always helpful and genuinely wanted to be in the hospitality field. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

    I really enjoyed shopping.

    I really enjoyed shopping. The malls are great and with a variety of outlets, offering many varied shopping options. I also enjoyed fine dinning. Excellent cuisine in Johannesburg. Many different types of restaurants offering all types of cuisines to meet global expectations from global citizens. The Mall of Africa, Sandton City, Gold Reef. The list is endless! Car hires easily accessible at reasonable prices, Uber and Bolt provide other options for easily moving around and about.

From the moment you land at OR Tambo, you feel it in the air, the people, music, customer service, culture, the scent of street food, the hustle of Sandton’s black excellence.     I lived in Johannesburg many years ago (left in 1999), for 21 years - and loved it. However I had not been back. I was very apprehensive as one hears many horror stories. I was pleasantly surprised. I found everyone polite, no aggression. I drove around at night, on my own....felt quite safe. I took a couple of Ubers and they were good. A few potholes, some lines in the roads missing, but the Joburg drivers use their indicators ....all in all a good experience, I never felt threatened or uncomfortable. I flew in at Lanseria airport and stayed in Sandon, visited, Fourways, Northcliffe and Mayfair....Mayfair was a bit downgraded!

    Right next to the Gautrain station in Rosebank, so super easy to travel to and from the airport. Warm reception when I checked in - I was allowed an early check-in, which made my trip more comfortable (didn't have to sit in some random coffee shop to get work done, great desk in the room). Hotel staff also assisted me with emergency printing. Great breakfast spread and Johannesburg skyline views from the room.

    Beautiful 5 star hotel. Staff at reception friendly and efficient. Portable staff also very helpful. Room spacious and beautiful. Beautiful landscaped gardens, with peacocks wondering around. Breakfast buffet big and delicious. Location is perfect. Close to casino and restaurants and also close to Fourways Mall and Sandton City Mall. Will stay here again.
