Things to Do in Apollo Bay

The Great Ocean Road
Rain forests, rock formations, and plenty of road. This gorgeous 150-mile stretch of the Surf Coast Highway was built to honor Australia’s fallen WWI soldiers. And what a memorial it is. From the majestic sight of the Twelve Apostles sea stacks to the lush vegetation of Otway National Park, the Great Ocean Road lives up to its great name.
Bay of Apostles
Ten million years in the making. Formed by the Southern Ocean’s constant pounding of limestone cliffs, the magnificent Twelve Apostles sea stacks give this bay its name. One rock collapsed in 2005, leaving just seven still standing. And with the base of the pillars eroding fast, make sure you make a stop and admire their beauty while you still can!
Great Otway National Park
Stretching from the coast up into the Otway Ranges, this vast green space is a nice place to make a pit stop on the Great Ocean Road. If you're into bird-watching, the park’s diverse landscape makes it a natural conservation area for rare bristlebirds and pink robins. You can also take a boat ride on the eerily calm Lake Elizabeth – a flooded valley full of petrified fern trees.
Port Campbell National Park
The powerful force of nature is evident at Port Campbell. Not only is it the best spot to take in the majestic Twelve Apostles sea stacks, the park features the Arch and Grotto, two beautiful limestone formations in their own right. At Loch Ard Gorge, you’ll notice another two stacks, “Tom and Eva,” named after the only survivors of a shipwreck that happened in the rocky bay in 1878.

Cook your own meals if you can. Restaurants may not meet your expectations. This is info from friends who live in Apollo Bay. Our one pricey dinner at a restaurant supported this.

The beach is great. Walk down to the pier to see working fishing vessels and get great fish and chips. Saunter back to the Main Street for a gelato dessert. Wonderful area.

Easy access to the great ocean road and sights along the coast. Otways lighthouse was well worth the visit - though it was a very windy day!
