Things to do in Ostend

Ostend Beach
Miles of soft golden sand await on the family-friendly beaches of Ostend, but this seaside spot is about more than just sunbathing and swimming. All ages will enjoy a stroll along the seafront promenade, with stops for ice cream along the way. Worn out from walking? Give little legs a break with a ride back on the coastal tram.
Maria Hendrikapark
Restless youngsters can run riot in this sprawling park, situated just south of Ostend city centre. Accessible for all ages, Maria Hendrikapark’s winding walking trails lead through shady woodland and open fields to ponds, playgrounds and even a miniature golf course. Pack a picnic and prepare for a day of fresh air and family fun!
Leopoldpark
After sightseeing or shopping in Ostend, this compact city-centre park makes a perfect pitstop for kids to blow off steam. Toddlers and teens alike can wander Leopoldpark’s well-defined pathways and wide open spaces, discovering play areas, crazy golf and the famous floral clock along the way, before settling down for a peaceful family picnic by the lake.
Albert I Promenade
When the sun shines in Ostend, Albert I Promenade is the place to be. This sandy stretch of beach is famous for its kingly name and the view of Casino Kursaal, built in gleaming Portland stone after WWII. Along the promenade, you’ll discover lovely seafood restaurants and bars, perfect for breezy dinners and evening drinks.
Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
Ostend’s most famous historical building, the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul only dates back a century. Positioned on the site of past churches on the main square, this Roman Catholic church is so massive and elaborate it evokes cathedrals of much larger cities. The ornate twin spires, rose-tinted windows and neo-gothic interior are especially beautiful.
Atlantic Wall Museum
The infamous German Atlantikwall ran all the way from Norway to the Pyrenees, but one of its most well-preserved sections is just outside of Ostend. This museum is a fascinating – and sobering – trip through the remains of these defensive subterranean bunkers. As you walk through the exhibit, you can imagine what life was like for the soldiers stationed inside.

Very good
First time visiting Belgium on a road trip. Ostend is a lovely seaside resort. You could be forgiven for thinking you were on the Mediterranean. Would visit again but use a different hotel. Very very clean streets too. Loved it...

Ostend is a busy seaside town with very local tourism. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed walking along the Promenade and eating brown shrimp. We had a lovely meal at Mathilda - fine dining Belgian style!

Recommendations for Ostend

There are plenty of restaurants both in town and along the beach but they all get busy at week-ends in the high season. However, one can always find a quite spot by going away from the coast.

The weather was brilliant when we there so our grandson had plenty of freedom on the beach and in the water he also went on the hired cycles and had a ball.

Coffee, wafels and pancakes with cream, and have a portie kaas met mosterd (cheese cubes with mustard) - brilliant.

Being in January it was cold, so a walk along the front was just delightful

Simply visit the Cafe Botteltje in Louisastraat. Can't be beaten!

Yes, lots of little independent shops.

Couldn't be improved - good anyway.

Cheap clean and on time
