Things to Do in Plovdiv

Plovdiv Old Town
Walking through Plovdid Old Town feels like taking a journey back in time. The world's sixth oldest city was established by the Thracians around 5,000 BC. Byzantines, Greeks, Romans and Ottomans have all occupied the city at some point, which shows in the variety of archaeological sites. Stroll the cobbled streets and discover everything from ancient amphitheatres to Baroque architecture.
Roman Theatre Plovdiv
This magnificent archaeological site was uncovered during a freak landslide in 1972. Built during the 2nd-century reign of Emperor Trajan, the amphitheatre is now one of Bulgaria’s most impressive landmarks. In the evening, the pillars and carvings are lit up by bright lights, and you can almost imagine the 6,000 spectators from centuries past crowding its ringed seating.
Bachkovo Monastery
Overlooking a lush valley and the Chepelarska River, the Bachkovo Monastery is a scenic place to breathe in history and natural beauty in equal measure. A rich, orange-red roof sits atop the golden stoned walls of the large courtyard, which is surrounded by gardens growing a bounty of fruits and veggies, aided by the mild mountain climate.

Very Good
Lots of interesting things to see, and the food is excellent. The roads and pavements are not good: lots of sharp rocks, uneven cobbles, broken pavers and potholes. However, we saw several teams working on repairs, so by next year the city could look very different.

Its a nice city, with beautiful places to see. Comfy shoes will be very wise as there will be a lot of walking involved. Spring/summer time would be ideal for beautiful views when the city is greener and everything looks even better.

Ruins are everywhere and it seems many Bulgarians are passionate about their country's archaeological treasures. Wonderful country and wonderful city!

Ethnographic Museum, Archeological Museum, amphitheatre, lookout at the top. Everywhere, really. Cobblestones a bit difficult.

Spend time soaking up the history walking round the city there is something round every corner, parks fountains ect

Plovdiv is surrounded by around 60 small vineyards, and the owner of the flat can organize wine tour for you.

It's pretty hard to drive around Plovdiv! But easy to walk - second longest pedestrian area in all of Europe.

They are hoping for investors for over head cable cars throughout the city

Various museums, inc Ethonographic Main shopping street was pleasant too

Trace the Thracian remains and look for Phillip II

ancient theater and roman stadium
