Things to do in Maceió

Piscinas Naturais de Pajuçara
These natural pools are set slightly out to sea, so you need to hire a ‘jangada’ boat to get there. Once you hope out, you’ll be surprised to find yourself standing up in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by fish. What’s more, there are dedicated boats that bob around selling beer, juice and fishy nibbles.
Jaragua Neighbourhood
Colonial buildings are being restored in this up-and-coming neighbourhood, and the old sugar warehouses have been given a lick of paint and transformed into bars, nightclubs, art galleries and restaurants. Live music and a bohemian vibe make it the perfect spot to sip a cool cocktail and do some people watching.
Maceió Beaches
Maceió is justly famous for its gorgeous beaches, some crowded, others deserted. They stretch for mile after white, sandy mile, complete with palm trees and clear, green water. There are no sharks, so it is safe to swim, surf or rent one of the small boats. Worked up an appetite? The many beach restaurants offer cool drinks, seafood, tropical fruit and more, often with live music.
Maceió's Naturally Formed Pools
To really enjoy the crystal clear waters of Maceió, rent a wooden sailing boat on Pajucara beach and visit the natural pools which form about 2 km out every day at low tide. Don't forget your underwater camera to capture images of the exquisite fish darting amongst the coral as you snorkel past.

Very good
Maceió is a great place to visit if you enjoy beach life, see the real local culture and try their food. There are different types of beaches that you can visit, and fun things to do. The temperature is really nice. Many people practicing sports by the seaside.

Exceptional
What you see in photos is nothing compared to what you will see in Maceio and the surrounding beach towns. These places are the definition of a perfect beach. BIG RECOMMENDATION YOU HAVE TO GO TO GUNGA BEACH. Seriously. Do go. Go now.

A typical tropical city in the Brazilian Northeast. Beautiful beaches, original culture, excellent local food (a mix of Portuguese, African, and indigenous traditions). The best options for hotels are along the shoreline (specially the following neighborhoods: Pajuçara, Ponta Verde, and Jatiúca).

July is winter. It rained a lot, but the covered artisan market was very lively and full of lovely items at low prices. The people are very friendly!
