Things to Do in Ottawa

Parliament Hill and Buildings
Watching over the city centre from its elevated spot, Parliament Hill is the political and cultural heart of Ottawa. The Parliament Buildings themselves are a masterpiece of Gothic revival style, with a striking clock tower and pretty public plaza. If you’re there from late June to late August, don’t miss the ceremonial Changing of the Guard at 10:00 sharp!
Rideau Canal
This picturesque chain of waterways links lakes, rivers and canal all the way from Lake Ontario to Ottawa. The Rideau Canal’s historic roots reach back as far as the 1812 War, when it was built as a strategic shortcut to bypass the Saint Lawrence River. Today, this peaceful beauty spot is perfect for sailing, cycling or scenic drives.
Canadian War Museum
This modern museum rises from the riverbank near Ottawa's Parliament Hill. Inside, an interactive collection explores historic conflicts on home soil, as well as Canada’s role in wars around the world. Even the museum’s design is a reflection on remembrance and regeneration, with a living grass-covered roof and ‘Lest we forget’ etched in Morse code on its windows.
Rideau Locks
Once the most dominant feature of Ottawa, most drivers passing over this bridge never notice the beautiful flight of eight locks. More than just an item of passing historic interest, these locks are the reason for the founding of Ottawa and represent an amazing engineering achievement in the middle of the Canadian wilderness of the early 19th century. Although motorists don't get a good view of the locks, the Plaza Bridge does provide pedestrians with an excellent view. Canada's Parliament buildings rise majestically in the background. The locks connect the channel of the Rideau Canal in Ottawa to the Ottawa River, almost 80 feet (24.4 m) below.
Currency Museum
First opened on December 5, 1980, Canada's Currency Museum is located on the ground floor of the Bank of Canada in Ottawa. It is the public face of the National Currency Collection, which contains over 100,000 currency-related artifacts from around the world. These include coins, bank notes, dies, plates, and engraving tools, bank and government ledgers, weights and scales, cash registers, wallets, numismatic medals and cards and examples of counterfeit money.
245 Sparks St
Ottawa Convention Center

55 Colonel By Drive
Canada Aviation and Space Museum

Exceptional
Loved the War Museum? Loved the tulips. Traffic was terrible but that happens in most cities. The city is trying to make it better and this will take a long time. Favourite place was Dows Lake. Ate at different restaurants and the were fine. We are in our 80's and enjoy what we do.

I toured all over Ottawa on foot. Lord Elgin was walking distance to Parliament, Byward market, the Rideau Canal, Canadian Mint, and the Museums (Nature, Bytown, War, Art, and Civilization). I was also able to walk to Little Italy on Preston and Chinatown on Somerset. Some places took a half hour to walk to but I enjoy walking. I saved a ton not getting a car rental or buying gas.

Winter is a good time if you are willing to brave the cold. Weekdays between 12 and 4.

Walking is the best way to seeistof Ottawa. Some things you need a car for.

The artitectural and history behind these amazing historical buildings.

Sir John A Pub - across from hotel, great food, great atmosphere

fee free visits to museums on Thursday between 4:00-8:00pm.

The tumble of the unknown soldier.
