Things to Do in Biarritz

Basque Coast Beach
Where golden sands meet the dark blue Atlantic, this beach is overlooked by steep cliffs and chic resorts. The long stretch of coast has been beloved by European royalty since the 1800s, and nowadays it’s a premier spot for surfing and sunbathing. After a day in the waves, the little coastal bars are perfect for catching sunsets.
Fishing Port in Biarritz
Fishermen’s Port is a true icon of Biarritz. Nestled by a small cove in the Old Town, this 19th-century harbour is a lovely spot to ramble around. You can enjoy an al fresco seafood feast while gazing at the moored boats and “crampottes” – houses built into the rocks – that line the shore. If you’re lucky enough to be here for Bastille Day, it’s also prime fireworks-watching territory.
Petit Train de La Rhune
The Petit Train de La Rhune is a rickety, vintage mining train that chugs up the 823-metre summit of La Rhune. Hop on for the 35-minute ride up the steep mountainside, where wild Pottok ponies and red-head sheep roam. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Basque Country, the Atlantic Coast and the Pyrenees shimmering in the distance.

Exceptional
Great beaches and cafes but Biarritz is the most expensive place I have stayed in France, a 10 minute drive to the airport 22 euros, cab drivers make it up! I would go again though, lovely small town and proximity to the airport a bonus. Our stay was all too short.

Very Good
It's a beautiful town with great beaches, dramatic waves, interesting buildings. It's rather up market with expensive boutiques etc. Great for window shopping but difficult to do on a budget. The Basque museum is interesting. We were able to visit San Sebastián, St Jean de Luz and Bayonne.

Beautiful beaches. Elegant older seaside town. Shops were very interesting and the local market was beautiful. Nice walks and sightseeing spots. Restaurants and food choices were varied and well priced.

Recommended in Biarritz

My friend is the shopper and she loved wandering into all the shops...street after street oh them. I liked the market...great for picking stuff up for a picnic on the beach.

Seeing the opulence of the palace that Napoleon built for Josephine and learning about the British and their past and present with Biarritz.

Aside from the Galleried Lafayette, I can't recall any brand name stores. The charming streets are full of small boutiques.

Biarritz is a very picturesque and clean resort. The cliffs and sea views are lovely.

Interesting sights and places to visit. Nice shops and wonderful cafes and restaurants

Why do you recommend Biarritz for food?

Beautiful beach but beware the treacherous ocean! Not for wimps!

Sea quite rough but lovely for sunbathing and relaxing

Impressed, love to return
