Things to Do in Carcassone

Comtal Castle
Carcassone is the largest city in Europe with its old walls still intact, so from the moment you enter you’ll feel transported back to medieval times. Incredibly well preserved, Comtal Castle makes for an unmissable tour. Within its walls you’ll find a mix of romanesque and gothic architecture, while a walk along its ramparts will offer up lovely views of the city.
Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus
The Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus exudes a mystical air, its impressive stone pillars stretching high up to the heavens. Built in a fascinating mix of gothic and romanesque style, the church’s history dates back well over 1,000 years and its stained glass window is one of the oldest in France. Even if you’re not a church lover, you can’t miss a trip here.
Cité de Carcassonne
This ancient fortress looks so much like fairy-tale castle that you’ll find yourself searching for Prince Charming within its walls. In fact, rumour has it that the Cité de Carcassonne was the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. You’ll love exploring its winding medieval alleys, imagining the lives of royalty and townsfolk from centuries past.

Exceptional
It's unique, interesting and with great shops , bars and restaurants. As it was October it was less crowded than the height of the Summer but the weather was beautiful. Our evening meal was in a sparsely inhabited restaurant and lacked atmosphere but lovely food if too much of it.

Great place to come for a couple of days. 2nd time visiting this city, it’s outstandingly beautiful! The locals are very friendly, and they either know plenty of English or none at all. You can do the whole Medieval Cité and New City in a few days!

Such a lovely place. The old fortified town is wonderful and the countryside with the autumnal vineyards so pretty with the canals and river and the Pyrenees and La Montagne Noire in the background.

The cite/castle is overly commercialised, but still worth looking at. Many charming villages are a treat to visit in the vicinity if youre driving.

Recommended in Carcassone

The food is very similar everywhere in this southwest region of France, but just because there are tourists in Carcassonne doesn't mean there aren't good places to eat in the walled city. Do your research on the cuisine and wine before you arrive and choose a place that looks inviting, most likely you won't be disappointed.

A cidade amuralhada, fora e dentro, é um espetáculo à parte. Vale muito a pena ver e entrar para comer, observar, divertir-se.

Go early we went in at 9.00 am had petit dejanur 10'e for 2 very reasonable left at 11 Was filling up by then

Medieval Cite, Canal du Midi, Ville Basse (market, restaurants, and le shopping!!)
