Very good
A very pretty city. When we arrived in early September the city was very quiet. We visited most sites in the city including the amazing Arena. Great rail network so easy to travel to neighbouring towns and cities. Good selection of restaurants. The old city was beautiful and easy to walk round.

Absolutely beautiful place. Perfect for a long weekend and other surrounding cities if you are there longer. look out for concerts at the arena. Even if you don't have a ticket, there are amazing restaurants around the outside where you can hear it all.

Very good
It's a beautiful city with a lot of rich culture. Not as fun if you're a vegetarian as you're really limited for food. Most places served mussels or bull (yes - bull, and bull fighting is still a thing there :( )

I travelled with my husband. We went for the specific purpose of photographing Roman artefacts. As we had many other places to visit we only stayed for a couple of days. So our favourite places were the arena, the Maison Carrée, and the Watch Tower.

Very good
You need a car as no restaurants close by and the bar closes at 7pm. Had to make up our bed Which is inconvenient. Well equipped for self catering.

Recommendations for Nîmes

Booking.com asked travellers...

Why do people recommend Nîmes for the parks?

Nîmes has done a fantastic job with the open spaces in the old town. The promenade leading to the old town from the railway station is surely one of the most pleasant introductions to a town that I have ever had from when arriving by the train. Quite apart from the fabulous Jardins de la Fontaine, there are a number of open spaces that have been extremely sympathetically developed, with sculptures and water features making the most of the natural spring that has its source at the Roman Augusteum next to the Temple of Diana. Everywhere there are nice spots to sit and watch the world go by.

We loved the architecture and layout of the city; it is beautiful and charming. The small squares and quaint shops and restaurants was very appealing.

Stay in the center town near Les Arenes or La maison Carré.Walk through Les Jardins de La Fontaine and wander around Les halles in the old streets.
