Things to Do in Perpignan

Palace of the Kings of Majorca
Once home to kings, this impressive Gothic palace-fortress now serves mostly as a reminder of the historic importance of the town of Perpignan. If not for the majestic building itself, you can also visit for the popular annual music festival, which attracts masses of guitar lovers to the palace and its gardens every August.
Perpignan Cathedral
Built in the 14th century, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist is the pride of Perpignan. Visitors usually head inside to admire its wide cross-vaulted nave, and if you happen to be here over Christmas, you’ll also get to hear its 46 magnificent bells reverberate with festive tunes.
The Castillet
The emblem of the Mediterranean city of Perpignan, the Grand Castillet fortress was constructed as a defensive gate in 1368. The following century, King Louis XI extended the fortification and added the second, Notre Dame Gate. Used as a prison in the 17th and 18th centuries, Castillet now contains the Casa Païral Museum of Catalan Folk Arts and Traditions.

It was easy to get to the sea and to the mountains - but very windy every day we were there. Stopped by the Duane when leaving, asked if we'd been to Spain, bought beer/ cigarettes - and searched our car 😐! Of course they found nothing!!

Fascinating narrow twisting streets with plazas that open up as you go round. The royal palace is a must see as it explains Perpignan. There’s a model in the old entry gate to the town which explains everything.

Brilliant heritage and restaurants, especially with the little streets, and the Palace of the King of Majorca- it had a tower that had great views of the city and surrounding area, and we had it all to ourselves for about half an hour!

Recommended in Perpignan

I did not head for the nearest beach 'Canet' instead after much trawling of the internet for recommendations I headed for Tourrielles Plage by bus, it took just under an hour and was well worth it - a vast stretch of pristine beach (reminiscent of The Hamptons) all to myself.

Perpignan is interesting and clean. Peoples there are friendly. very cheap local transport.

There are signs throughout the old city giving interesting historical details
