Very good
Carlisle is an interesting place to stay, and is within easy reach of Scotland and Gretna Green. Hadrian's Wall and other lovely places to walk are nearby. Can get a bit rowdy on a Friday and Saturday night.

Exceptional
Unfortunately as we were on our way home from a holiday in the Outer Hebrides we could only spend a short time in the City. What we saw of it was very pleasing. By the River and the Park Area was particularly pretty and the short time in the shopping area was fine.

Exceptional
I loved my experience to Carlisle it's just that I was disappointed by the fact that I was charged full price for a room when I only needed it for a few hours, if I was staying the night then I wouldn't pile the mind paying full price as it was a good price for a night

Very good
Unfortunately the number of empty shops and their visual neglected appearances is not welcoming for visitors. It is a great centre for visiting other places by train e.g. Glasgow and The Lakes.

Recommendations for Carlisle

Botchergate is 'quite lively' but it 'does what it says on the tin' all Pubs in this area seem to be the same type i.e. earsplitting music and bouncers on the door, only go there for a 'loud' night out

Hadrians wall, Roman Forts, Cathedral are you kidding with this question. Place is fantastic for young and old, including children And the people are so friendly!

The beginning of Hadrians Wall is not too far out of town and the castle is within easy walking distance from anywhere in town.

Te castle is in pretty good condition. parts of the castle is home for a modern day regiment.

Lots of different shops. The Lanes had an old world charm. Lots of places to eat.

Francos Italian ( Grenmarket )is wonderful.

can not say. did not read guide book

stained glass windows
