Things to Do in Scarborough

Cayton Bay
In search of sea breezes and stunning scenery? The coastal path from Scarborough to Filey is part of the Cleveland Way National Trail, and is a year-round favorite with walkers of all abilities. The prettiest stretch leads to a sweep of golden sand at Cayton Bay, a popular surfing spot.
Cleveland Way National Trail
On the edges of the North York Moors National Park, 109-mile-long Cleveland Way leads hikers from Helmsley’s heather-covered heathland to the windswept cliffs of Filey Brigg. The craggy coastal path around Scarborough has some of the trail’s stand-out views, with lush green fields running down to golden sands and rock pools around Cayton Bay.
Scarborough Harbour & Pier
Just the place for a seaside stroll, Scarborough Harbour is still a working fishing port. In summer, the promenade bustles with wandering locals and visitors who hop between its buzzing restaurants and bars. If the weather’s not so great, you can still enjoy an invigorating walk along the pier, followed by a warming drink in a waterfront café.
Silks Fish and Chips
It may be tucked away in a quiet residential street, but locals know this legendary Scarborough chippy is well worth the detour. Silks has a hard-earned reputation for generous portions, friendly staff and, above all, fantastic food. Expect fat, fluffy chips and melt-in-the-mouth fish smothered in crisp, light batter.
The Golden Grid Restaurant
This waterfront eatery serves up some of Scarborough’s freshest seafood with a side of stunning harbour views. The Golden Grid’s menu covers everything from oysters and lobster to sandwiches and steaks, but you can’t go wrong with its classic battered fish and chunky homemade chips. Be sure to book ahead to reserve a window seat!
Harbour View Cafe
From the outside it’s easily overlooked, but this chippy’s fantastic food and seafront vistas make it a well-loved local favourite. Behind the slightly anonymous exterior, the Harbour View Cafe serves up some of Scarborough’s finest fish and chips. All food is cooked to order, ensuring crisp, delicate batter and not a soggy chip in sight.
The Spa Scarborough
The Spa offers a range of conference suites & entertainment venues including: The Grand Hall seating 2000, home to the Scarborough Spa Orchestra. The Spa Theatre, a 600-seater Victorian Theatre, home to the second-longest running Summer Season show in the country. The Green Lounge, Promenade Lounge & Ocean Room which all cater for the smaller conference or event.
South Bay, Foreshore Road
Scarborough Castle
Scarborough castle is over 3000 years old dating back to the bronze age. It is said that King Richard III enjoyed the view from the battlements so much so that he still walks them today!
Castle Road
Stephen Joseph Theatre
The Stephen Joseph Theatre is home to Alan Ayckbourn, the world's most performed living playwright and boasts 2 auditoria: The Round and The McCarthy, which also doubles as a cinema.

A fantastic historical place. Ideal for a relaxing interesting visit to Victorian England. Such a wealthy place in its time and unlike other seaside towns is still holding its own and being maintained well. There are some very pretty area to walk and explore.

Beautiful costal town. Very friendly locals. We went to the Sealife Centre and we took my disable mother-in-law and the staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The shops and beach were in a good location. Lots to do whether you are young or old. A beautiful costal town.

Doing its best to avoid becoming another shabby seaside town. Amazing scenery and beaches set it apart from its rivals.

Recommended in Scarborough

Lovely beaches, but would be better in summer as many facilities not open in winter. Whitby is a better bet for out of season breaks.

They are fine as they are- wouldn't recommend doing it at high tide of course!!!

Soft sands and harbour walks along with rock pools in the South Bay

Long exspance of of promenade for walking and nice sunsets.

there's so much to see and do I never get tired of it.

I was alone on this holiday.

Long walks on the beach.
