Things to do in Szeged

Szeged Cathedral
The twin spires of this stunning cathedral are the icing on the cake of this historical and architectural treat. Plans for the cathedral started before WWI but weren’t completed until the 1930s. The result is soaring ceilings and technicoloured tiled mosaics, complemented by the light flooding in from domes and stained-glass windows.
Széchenyi Square and Kárász Street
The Baroque-style town hall of Szeged sits pretty on Széchenyi Square, one of the largest piazzas in Europe. Cafés and ice cream parlours are scattered throughout the bustling city-centre hub and along Kárász Street, a realm of retail heaven.
Reök Palace
This Art Nouveau palace resembles a cake with its flourishes of green and lilac, bedecking an elaborately adorned façade. It was designed by renowned architect Ede Magyar. Inside its equally attractive interiors, you can visit art exhibitions and attend concerts. Keep an eye out for dates when guided tours of the pretty palace are offered.

Exceptional
A lovely clean city, with great food. We went there during Labor day, so we didn't have much to do other than walking, which was totally fine. I would recommend the Anyám Tyúkjai restaurant for delicious fresh food from local farms and A Capella pastry shop for sweets, coffee and icecream.

Szeged is a great little city. There are a lot of beautiful things to see and they are all close by. Be sure to visit Aquapolis which we loved. 2 days are plenty and if you don't want to rush then take 3 days. Great weekend destination.

Be careful with the street parking. There are signs not to park 10 m from the street corners! They will lift your car without warning...
